According to information from AP News , Cards Against Humanity (CAH) - the company that produces the card game of the same name has reached a settlement in the $15 million lawsuit against billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX.

The 2024 lawsuit alleges the aerospace company trespassed and “completely destroyed” CAH-owned land in Texas. Specific terms of the settlement have not been released.

CAH bought the land near the US-Mexico border in 2017 to protest the construction of a wall separating the two countries. In 2023, a local resident discovered SpaceX was using the land to store construction materials and equipment, then reported it to CAH.

The situation escalated when SpaceX issued a "12-hour ultimatum" demanding that CAH accept its offer to buy the land at a reduced price. In response, CAH decided to file a lawsuit.

The settlement was reached just before the case was scheduled to go to trial on November 3. CAH told the AP that SpaceX admitted to the infringement during the investigation, but the company opted to settle because the cost of a trial would have been more than the amount CAH could have won from SpaceX.

“On the positive side, SpaceX has removed construction equipment from our land. CAH can work with a local landscaping company to restore the natural state. There will be no more space debris and pointless border walls,” CAH representatives emphasized.

In the lawsuit, CAH is asking for $15 million in damages, an amount it promised to share with the 150,000 donors who contributed $15 to buy the land initially. However, in an email to subscribers (cited by TechCrunch ), CAH said the cash was removed from the deal.

Specifically, CAH is concerned that the cost of pursuing the case in court will “cost more than the potential for a successful outcome.” Under Texas law, it is unlikely that it will recover its legal fees. Additionally, the company accuses SpaceX of using legal tactics, a willingness to prolong the case, and excessive spending to frustrate CAH, making it impossible to negotiate a settlement.

“Elon Musk’s team has officially admitted to illegally trespassing on your property, then cleaned up and left. But when it came to compensating you, he did the equivalent of throwing dust in our eyes and kicking us in the groin,” the email read.

"So while we can't give you what you really want - cash from Elon Musk, we will make it up to you with some fun! We'll send each of you a new, exclusive set of cards featuring Elon Musk," said a CAH representative.

Cards Against Humanity is an adult board game known for its humorous, controversial content and often satirical social and political issues. Players have the task of matching two cards together to create the most humorous and dark set of questions and answers. CAH is also known for its unique and shocking promotional campaigns.
