Exploiting the potential for cooperation between Vietnam and South Africa

On the afternoon of October 24, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa attended the Vietnam - South Africa Business Forum. Also attending the forum were ministers, leaders of ministries, branches, government agencies and 200 business representatives from both countries.

Speaking at the forum, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that during his meeting with the President of South Africa, the two sides proposed directions, programs, and goals for cooperation; identifying people and businesses as the main subjects to realize the directions, programs, and goals of cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested and hoped that businesses of the two countries would carry out the historic mission of connecting businesses, connecting economy and culture to turn cooperation potential into concrete projects, contributing to bringing prosperity, well-being and happiness to each country. For peace , cooperation and development in the region and the world.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said that Vietnam and South Africa are two partners whose relationship stems from very natural needs, proven over time, with many similarities in history, culture and ideology; aiming for long-term friendship and cooperation.

Sharing about the global challenges affecting each country, as well as South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that South Africa and Vietnam have strategic positions in the region. If South Africa is the gateway to Africa, Vietnam is the gateway to Southeast Asia. Therefore, the two countries will be the gateway for each other to access the regional market.

Vietnam has potential and strengths such as electric vehicle production, battery production, renewable energy, digital transformation, electronics, textiles, rice, coffee, seafood, etc. South Africa has natural conditions and strengths in fruits, wine, livestock, aquaculture, mining, automobile production, infrastructure, etc.

The President believes that both sides still have great potential that has not been exploited. Therefore, businesses need to promote cooperation, technology transfer, and jointly build supply chains in areas where each side has strengths, and expand into new areas. In particular, both countries are beautiful, with unique cultures, so there is potential to promote tourism and cultural exchange.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said South Africa is committed to reducing trade barriers and improving the legal framework to protect investment for businesses. The President called on Vietnamese businesses to take advantage of opportunities, exploit potentials, and establish cooperative relationships with South African businesses through specific contracts, projects, and programs...

On the same day, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly always attaches importance to and wishes to further promote the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with South Africa, making parliamentary cooperation an important and key pillar of bilateral relations; suggested that the two sides continue to increase the exchange of parliamentary delegations, especially the specialized committees of the National Assembly, exchange of legislative experts and suggested that the two sides soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.

The National Assembly Chairman respectfully invited the South African National Assembly to send representatives to participate in legislative seminars organized by the Vietnamese National Assembly in the coming time and hoped that cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies would be a model for parliaments of the southern hemisphere to jointly deal with global challenges.

On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman suggested that the two countries' parliaments continue to strengthen coordination, support each other and organize bilateral meetings on the sidelines of multilateral parliamentary forums.

The President of South Africa affirmed the determination of the South African Government to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including cooperation between parliamentary bodies, commensurate with the good political relations and the position of the two countries. When the two countries officially upgrade their relationship to a Strategic Partnership, the role of the legislature is essential to ensure that cooperation agreements will be implemented.

Within the framework of the working program with the Vietnamese National Assembly, the South African President attended the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly and visited the National Assembly Museum. On the same morning, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the family of General Vo Nguyen Giap (30 Hoang Dieu, Hanoi).
