
On the evening of December 5, the VinFuture 2025 Award Ceremony at the Hoan Kiem Theater ( Hanoi ) gathered hundreds of domestic and international scientists. The event honored research and inventions that benefit humanity, adding motivation to the desire for creativity and dedication.
The VinFuture 2025 Main Prize worth 3 million USD was awarded to Dr. Douglas R. Lowy, Dr. John T. Schiller, Dr. Aimée R. Kreimer and Professor Maura L. Gillison (USA) for their foundational discoveries leading to the development of the HPV vaccine.
The work marks a turning point in the prevention of cervical cancer, especially in developing countries, and contributes to reducing head and neck cancer. The single-dose injection regimen proposed by Dr. Kreimer makes the vaccine more accessible to millions of people, creating a profound impact on public health.

In his congratulatory speech to the scientists, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that the theme of this year's award is "Together we grow - Together we prosper", as a strong global call for development, in the spirit of solidarity, progress, sharing, creating opportunities for all people and all nations. It is also the spirit of overcoming knowledge limits, promoting global cooperation and bringing practical benefits to humanity.
Recognizing, appreciating and sincerely thanking the persistent efforts, commitments and high responsibilities of the founders of the fund, the National Assembly Chairman also affirmed that Vietnam wishes to work with the world's scientific community to promote cooperation in researching common issues of humanity, promoting academic exchanges, training high-quality human resources, cooperating in technology transfer and implementing green development models, inclusive development; ready to accompany countries, organizations and research institutes in the spirit of openness, responsibility and mutual respect. Vietnam will continue to be a reliable and attractive destination for scientists so that creative values can be shared and spread strongly to the international community.

Three special prizes (each worth 500,000 USD) were awarded in the categories: Female Scientists, Scientists researching new fields, Scientists from developing countries.

The VinFuture 2025 Special Prize for Scientists from Developing Countries honored Professor María Esperanza Martínez-Romero (Mexico) for her advances in research on microbial ecology and symbiotic nitrogen fixation mechanisms in tropical ecosystems.

The VinFuture 2025 Special Prize for Female Scientists was awarded to Professor Mary-Claire King (USA) for her discovery of the BRCA1 gene associated with the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, laying the foundation for genetic testing, screening programs and personalized treatment.

The VinFuture 2025 Special Prize for Scientists researching new fields honored five scientists: Professor Venkatesan Sundaresan (USA), Professor Raphaël Mercier (Germany), Dr. Emmanuel Guiderdoni (France), Dr. Imtiyaz Khanday (USA) and Dr. Delphine Mieulet (France) for their innovations in developing hybrid crops capable of self-propagating.

Professor Richard Friend, Chairman of the Prize Council, affirmed that this year's works "show the power of science when led by compassion and the spirit of cross-border cooperation".
After 5 seasons, VinFuture has become one of the most prestigious science and technology awards in the world, with more than 6,100 nominations from nearly 110 countries and 48 scientists honored. VinFuture continues to be a meeting place for world knowledge, contributing to making Vietnam a place where creative values converge towards a sustainable and humane future.
