TASS reported on December 5 that President Trump said he believes the conflict in Ukraine will eventually be resolved and the US is making every effort to promote that.
"We're making peace all over the world. We're solving wars like never before: eight. Now we're trying to solve one more: Russia and Ukraine. I think we're going to get there eventually. We need to end this conflict and we're working very hard to do that," President Trump said before the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at the White House.

Washington had earlier proposed a 28-point peace plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. However, Kiev and Europe rejected the proposal. On November 23, the US and Ukraine held consultations in Geneva.
President Trump later said the original plan for a peace settlement had been adjusted to take into account the positions of Moscow and Kiev, narrowing it down to 22 points and retaining only a few controversial provisions.
On November 30, representatives of the United States and Ukraine met in Florida to discuss measures to end the conflict, long-term solutions to economic and security issues, election prospects in Ukraine and territorial issues.
On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, at the Kremlin. The meeting lasted about 5 hours and focused on resolving the Ukraine issue. According to Putin's assistant, Mr. Yury Ushakov, the two sides discussed the essence of the proposals from the 4 documents of the US peace plan.
Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Olga Stefanishina earlier announced that Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov will travel to the US on December 4 to continue meetings with US Special Envoy Witkoff.
