Timely assistance
In the early days of the 2025-2026 school year, news that Do Huu Dong, a student in class 8B6, was seriously ill and requiring inpatient treatment at the Emergency Department of the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital, deeply saddened the teachers and students of Dong Hai Secondary School. He was diagnosed with Japanese encephalitis, sepsis, nonspecific pneumonia, and acute respiratory failure. Ms. Luu Thi Hoa (Dong's mother) said, Besides the approximately 200 million VND covered by health insurance, the family has to spend 16 million VND daily on various medications and special services. For a family of ordinary laborers with unstable incomes, this is a truly heavy burden.
Upon receiving the information, the school's Red Cross branch allocated 5 million VND from its fund to support the family as initial assistance. More importantly, the school took the initiative to connect teachers, parents, students, and the wider community to work together to help. In just under a week since the fundraising campaign was launched, the amount of donations reached over 220 million VND. In addition, Dong's father received over 80 million VND from benefactors via bank transfer. This timely support gives Dong renewed hope for treatment, a speedy recovery, and a return to his studies.
According to statistics, in the 2024-2025 school year, Dong Hai Secondary School had more than 80 students from disadvantaged families. From the beginning of the school year, the school's management assigned staff and teachers to investigate and verify the circumstances and develop specific support plans, such as for Nguyen Thai Minh (class 7C5, orphaned, mother ill, living with his grandmother who collects scrap metal); and Le Xuan Tung (class 7C8, suffering from severe kidney failure and poor health).
The students receive support ranging from 500,000 to 1 million VND per month. While not a large sum, it serves as a source of encouragement and motivation for their studies. Ms. Tran Thi Thang, Deputy Principal of Dong Hai Secondary School, shared: “The school does not want any student to drop out due to financial difficulties. The support, however small, demonstrates our commitment and belief that the students will rise above their circumstances through their own efforts.”

Sow seeds of kindness through small acts.
The "Warm Tet" program, organized and maintained by Dong Hai Secondary School for the past 8 years, has become a beautiful annual tradition of the school. Through creative activities such as raising super-heavy pigs, the "Friendship Rice Jar" program, and the "Spring of Love" program, students and parents alike participate, contributing to charity funds while simultaneously educating the younger generation about compassion.
In the spring of 2025, the "Warm Tet - Loving Spring" program took place enthusiastically and vibrantly, with the staff, teachers, parents, and students raising over 235 million VND. From this amount, the school prepared 84 Tet gift packages. The school sent teachers and parents to deliver the gifts to the students' homes. This thoughtful approach helped students and their families feel the spirit of sharing more deeply. The teachers and students of the school also visited and presented gifts to the SOS Children's Village in Hai Phong and the Hoa Phuong Orphanage, and provided comprehensive insurance coverage to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
At the end of 2024, the volunteer group from Dong Hai Secondary School successfully organized the "Spread Love - Helping Children Go to School" program in Cao Bang province. Handshakes, hugs, and meaningful gifts became a source of encouragement and comfort for students and disadvantaged families in the mountainous region.
Through concrete actions, the teachers and students of Dong Hai Secondary School affirm that education is not just about teaching literacy, but also about teaching how to be a good person. The spirit of "mutual support and compassion" is being strongly spread throughout the school, contributing to building a compassionate and close-knit community.
