In the first days of the 2025-2026 school year, the news that Do Huu Dong, a student of class 8B6, had a serious illness and had to be hospitalized at the Emergency Department of the Central Tropical Hospital made teachers and students of Dong Hai Secondary School feel heartbroken. He was diagnosed with Japanese encephalitis, sepsis, nonspecific pneumonia and acute respiratory failure. Ms. Luu Thi Hoa (Dong's mother) said, In addition to the health insurance support of about 200 million VND, each day the family has to spend 16 million VND to buy other medicines and special services. For ordinary working families with unstable income, this is a really big burden.

Grasping the information, the school's Red Cross branch allocated 5 million VND from the family's support fund as initial support. More importantly, the school stood up to connect teachers, parents, students and the community to join hands to help. After just one week of launching, the amount of donations reached more than 220 million VND. In addition, Dong's father also received more than 80 million VND from benefactors sent through his bank account. The timely resources give more hope for Dong to receive treatment, recover his health soon, and return to school.

According to statistics, in the 2024-2025 school year, Dong Hai Secondary School has more than 80 students from poor families. Right from the beginning of the school year, the Board of Directors assigned staff and teachers to investigate, verify the circumstances and propose specific support plans such as the cases of Nguyen Thai Minh (class 7C5, no father, sick parents, living with his grandmother who collects scrap metal); Le Xuan Tung (class 7C8, has severe kidney failure, poor health).

Students receive support from 500,000 VND to 1 million VND per month. The amount is not large but it is a support and encouragement to motivate their learning spirit. Ms. Tran Thi Thang, Vice Principal of Dong Hai Secondary School, shared: "The school does not want any student to drop out of school due to difficulties. The support, no matter how small or large, shows companionship and belief that the students will rise up with their own determination."

Sow seeds of kindness from small things

The program “Warm Tet” has been organized by Dong Hai Secondary School for 8 years now, becoming an annual tradition of the school. Through creative forms such as: Raising overweight pigs, Friendship rice jars, Spring of love, students and parents participate, contributing to charity funds and educating the spirit of humanity to the younger generation.

In the spring of 2025, the program "Warm Tet - Loving Spring" took place enthusiastically and vigorously, with the collective of staff, teachers, parents and students raising more than 235 million VND. From this amount, the school prepared 84 Tet gifts. The school sent teachers and parents to give them at home. This method showed tact, helping students and their families feel more deeply the love of sharing. Teachers and students of the school also visited and gave gifts to SOS Children's Village Hai Phong, Hoa Phuong Orphanage, and gave comprehensive insurance to students in difficult circumstances.

At the end of 2024, the volunteer group of Dong Hai Secondary School successfully organized the program "Spreading love - Going to school with you" in Cao Bang province. Handshakes, hugs, sharing and meaningful gifts became a source of encouragement and comfort for students and disadvantaged households in the highlands.

Through concrete actions, teachers and students of Dong Hai Secondary School affirm that education does not stop at teaching letters, but also teaches how to be a good person. The spirit of “mutual love and support” is being strongly spread by the school, contributing to building a compassionate and cohesive community.
