Beyond traditional training methods, fire prevention and control in schools has undergone significant innovation in both content and approach. Competitions, experiential programs, simulations, and theatrical performances are regularly organized, attracting a large number of students. For the past two years, the sight of students in their uniforms enthusiastically practicing firefighting, extinguishing fires with fire extinguishers, standing on fire trucks with ladders, and escaping using slow-descent rope ladders has become commonplace. No longer just listening to lectures on fire safety skills, students learn through experience, practice as if it were real, and even role-play as firefighters or victims to hone their self-rescue skills. This deeply instills awareness and builds resilience in the face of fire emergencies.
The "Fire Alarm 114" competition held on October 11th at Hon Gai High School is a vivid example. With the participation of 5 teams from 5 schools: Hon Gai High School; Ha Long Specialized High School; Le Thanh Tong Primary, Secondary & High School; UKA Ha Long International Bilingual School; and Ngo Quyen High School, the competition provided practical experiences and received much encouragement from the students. The staged greetings and the theoretical and practical tests were designed as interactive learning sessions, helping students learn while playing and remembering situational handling skills.
Colonel Le Hong Van, Deputy Director of the Provincial Police, affirmed: "The competition is not only an educational playground, but also a strategic step in building a people's fire prevention defense system starting from within schools. When students are knowledgeable and skilled, they become young communicators spreading safety awareness in their families and communities."

From the beginning of 2025 until now, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police (Provincial Police Department) has coordinated with the Provincial Department of Education and Training to organize a program of propaganda, experience, practice, and the "Fire Alarm 114" competition at 171 schools in the province.
Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, Chau Hoai Thu, commented: Organizing diverse forms of fire prevention and control propaganda, such as quizzes, skits, and drills, makes students more interested than traditional teaching. This helps them develop discipline, calmness, and teamwork skills – important qualities in life skills education.
Alongside direct propaganda and educational activities, the Provincial Police Department launched the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police YouTube channel with the animated series "Rapid Rescue Team". Here, fire prevention and control knowledge is conveyed through animated characters using lively language that is relatable to students. This is an innovative approach, bringing legal information about fire prevention and control to students through familiar means they use daily.
Fire safety is not just about emergency response skills, but also a lesson in responsibility and a spirit of selflessness. When a student knows how to handle a fire and escape safely, they not only protect themselves but can also help their friends, teachers, and relatives. Pham Chau An (a student at the British Academy International Bilingual School) shared after a practical session with the fire department: “Before, I only heard about the theory, but now I've directly held a fire extinguisher and escaped. I understand that every delay can affect the lives of others.”
In the coming period, the Provincial Police and the Department of Education and Training will continue to coordinate the implementation of the "Safe School for Fire Prevention and Control" model. Content on fire prevention, evacuation, and emergency response will be integrated into life skills programs, during extracurricular activities, and experiential learning sessions. Regular quarterly training sessions will be organized to help students develop safe reflexes from an early age.
Equipping students with fire safety skills is not just a movement activity, but has become an important content in life skills education and the formation of civic character. “We want to instill in each student the habit of observing and detecting fire hazards, knowing how to report a fire, and using on-site fire extinguishing equipment. When these skills become a reflex, the school environment will truly be safe,” affirmed Captain Phan Văn Thanh, Deputy Team Leader of the Firefighting Task Force, Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department (Provincial Police).
