At the discussion session, countries welcomed the announcement and implementation of phase 1 of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, considering this an important step forward, opening up opportunities for peace after more than 2 years of conflict.
Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas Islamist movement, highly appreciating the mediation and reconciliation efforts of the countries that helped achieve this important breakthrough. The Vietnamese representative called on the relevant parties to strictly comply with the agreement, exercise maximum restraint and avoid any actions that could disrupt the peace process; emphasizing the role of the United Nations in promoting compliance with international law.
The Vietnamese representative highlighted the importance of ensuring the timely and unhindered provision of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. Reiterating Vietnam’s steadfast stance in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the two-state solution, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen affirmed that Vietnam supports and is ready to actively contribute to the international community’s efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip on the basis of respect for national sovereignty , principles of international law and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
