Mr. Vu The Hiep, Vice Chairman of Phuoc Hiep Commune People's Committee, said that National Highway 14E passing through the commune is under construction, renovation and upgrading, and a large landslide has occurred, causing local traffic jams at many locations. In particular, at Km 84+500 and Km 84+700, an estimated landslide of over 3,000m3 of soil and rock occurred, and a large natural forest tree (60-70cm in diameter, over 20m long) was uprooted.
Due to the failure to repair the situation, traffic from Phuoc Hiep commune to Kham Duc commune and vice versa was completely cut off. In addition, landslides with a volume of over ten thousand cubic meters were also recorded at Km 65 and Km 66+600.
The residential area of hamlet 4 (old hamlet 8) has 2 cracks on the hillside from the period 2019-2020, currently at high risk of landslides, affecting 33 households/138 people. The Blaau residential area in hamlet 7 is at risk of flooding, affecting 11 households/55 people. Along the Truong River, there are 10 households/33 people in hamlets 2, 4, 5 at risk of being affected when the river water rises.
Faced with the complicated developments of the flood situation, the Commune People's Committee and the Commune Civil Defense Command held meetings, deployed response tasks and organized field inspections at high-risk locations. The Commune propagated and mobilized 33 households/138 people in Hamlet 4 to temporarily relocate to the Cultural House of Hamlet 4 and other safe interspersed households; at the same time, propagated and mobilized people in Blaau residential area of Hamlet 7 to be ready to relocate to village houses, schools and solid houses when flooding occurs.
The locality requested the traffic project construction units to coordinate and support vehicles to clear minor landslides and quickly clear the route. In particular, Project Management Board 4 and the National Highway 14E construction unit must take measures to fix and clear the route at Km 84+500 and Km 84+700 after the weather stabilizes and safety is ensured.
“The Commune Civil Defense Command is on duty 24/7, putting up warning signs at landslide and flood locations, strictly prohibiting people from crossing rivers and streams to collect fish and firewood to prevent drowning. The Commune People's Committee continues to focus on monitoring, grasping the situation, preparing forces to respond and promptly handle any arising situations,” informed Mr. Vu The Hiep.
