Heavy rain over a large area caused a lot of damage to traffic.

On the afternoon of October 26, Road Management Area III (Vietnam Road Administration) had a quick report on the traffic situation and damage to road infrastructure on national highways under its management.

Accordingly, in recent days, heavy rain over a large area in Da Nang city and Quang Ngai province has caused a lot of traffic damage, especially on the Ho Chi Minh route.

Specifically, at 9:15 a.m. on October 26, at Km1411+400 and Km1411+500 of Ho Chi Minh road (in Dak Plo commune, Quang Ngai province), an estimated 400 cubic meters of soil and rock collapsed from the positive slope onto the road, causing a complete traffic jam. The road management and maintenance force urgently proceeded to clear the landslide, and by 9:33 a.m. on the same day, one lane was open to traffic and by 3:00 p.m., two lanes were open to traffic.

In addition, at 10:00 on October 26, at Km1403+00 and Km1406+600 of Ho Chi Minh road (in Phuoc Nang commune, Da Nang city), a landslide also occurred on the positive slope. An estimated 2,400 cubic meters of soil and rock slid down from the positive slope onto the road, causing a complete traffic jam. Currently, it is raining very heavily, and the soil and rock on the positive slope continue to slide, affecting the progress of the landslide removal. It is expected that on October 26, a section of the road will be open to traffic.

Also according to the report, at about 10:10 a.m. on October 26, at Km1430+500, Ho Chi Minh road (in Dak Pek commune, Quang Ngai province), a landslide occurred on the positive slope, with an estimated volume of 200m3. The amount of soil and rock that had collapsed from the positive slope spilled onto the road, causing a complete traffic jam. The authorities urgently cleared the landslide soil and rock, and by 12 o'clock on the same day, a section of the road was open to traffic.

At 11:00 on October 26, at Km1409+100 of Ho Chi Minh road (in Dak Plo commune, Quang Ngai province), soil and rocks also collapsed from the positive slope onto the road, causing a complete traffic jam, with an estimated volume of about 1,400m3. By 1:00 p.m. the same day, the authorities had reached the location of the landslide and urgently proceeded to clean it up, and it is expected that a section of the road will be cleared for traffic during the day...

Regarding the direction to overcome and ensure traffic safety, immediately after the landslide caused traffic jam, Road Management Area III informed the Department of Construction and the Traffic Police force in Da Nang city, Quang Ngai province and the media to inform vehicles and proactively plan their travel routes.

Currently, the weather is still raining heavily over a large area. Road Management Area III has been requesting the Regional Road Management Offices and regular Management and Maintenance units to urgently focus on clearing landslides and rocks to clear a section of the slope as soon as possible. At the same time, dredging overflowing soil to fill longitudinal ditches and clearing drainage culverts to ensure drainage; strengthening road inspections, especially at key locations to promptly handle congestion to ensure smooth traffic safety...

Also on October 26, due to heavy rain, the mountainous communes in the West of Da Nang city (Tra Linh, Tra Tap, Nam Tra My, Tra Leng, Tra Tan, Tra My, Lanh Ngoc...) experienced very heavy rain, causing landslides on roads, houses and local flooding. Many inter-village and inter-commune roads were eroded, traffic was cut off. Ward and commune People's Committees continuously issued warnings to people not to go through landslides and dangerous roads...; in which, National Highway 40B, the section through the 5-storey Waterfall area (in Tra Tap commune) was eroded with a large amount of rock and soil spilling onto the road surface. Local authorities advised people not to move through this area before the authorities deployed vehicles to clear it.

In addition, a serious landslide occurred at Km 84+700 on National Highway 14E (in Hiep Duc commune), mud and trees overflowed onto the road, causing complete blockage, making it impossible for vehicles to move. Although authorities have urgently resolved the situation, this area is still at risk of further landslides due to prolonged heavy rain.

Also on the afternoon of October 26, due to strong water flow, Ca Da bridge on National Highway 24C (from Tra My commune, Tra Tan through Quang Ngai province) seriously collapsed, local authorities advised people not to travel on the bridge...

According to a quick report from Da Nang city on the afternoon of October 26, localities have urgently evacuated households in areas at high risk of landslides to safe places. Specifically, Tra Linh commune evacuated 49 households/206 people; Tra Leng commune evacuated 51 households/163 people; Phuoc Thanh commune evacuated 42 households/128 people; Tra Doc commune evacuated 141 households/620 people; Tra Giap commune evacuated 55 households/233 people... Many communes have announced that students will be off school tomorrow, October 27, to ensure safety...
