Sancho was a big disappointment. |
A source from journalist Graeme Bailey said: "At MU, the board is really worried about Sancho's situation. The club does not expect him to revive to return to Old Trafford, but they hope he can at least play well to create transfer value. Now, the possibility of recouping any money from this deal is becoming very low."
Initially, MU hoped Sancho could follow the same path as Marcus Rashford – who also lost his starting place under Ruben Amorim but shone at Aston Villa in the second half of the 2024/25 season. Last summer, Rashford was loaned to Barcelona with a £30.3 million buyout clause and continued to play prominently in La Liga.
Instead of shining like Rashford, Sancho is still struggling to find his form. In the early morning of October 24, he disappointed in his rare start for Aston Villa, in the match against GA Eagles in the Europa League. The former MU player's dribbling and footwork were all predicted by the opposing defense, before being replaced in the 66th minute.
Sancho's contract with MU will expire at the end of this season. If the situation does not improve, the "Red Devils" will likely lose Sancho for free, closing one of the most expensive failed deals in the club's history. 4 years ago, Sancho moved to Old Trafford from Dortmund for a huge fee of 73 million pounds.
