Messi's surprising choice

The 37-year-old Argentinean player Messi chose the goal in the 2009 Champions League final when Barcelona beat MU 2-0 at the Olimpico stadium in Rome (Italy) as his favorite goal in his career.

This goal was scored by Messi after a header in a slightly opposite position, raising the score to 2-0 in the 70th minute after Eto'o's opening goal in the 10th minute.

"I have scored many goals that are even more beautiful and have a greater value, because of their importance, but the header in the Champions League final against Manchester United will always be my favorite. Its meaning is huge, and also because it was the culmination of an unforgettable year," Messi shared when announcing his favorite goal in his career.

Messi's favourite goal will be chosen in collaboration with artist Refik Anadol, a prominent figure in 21st century art, whose data sculpture creations have redefined the boundaries between art and technology.

From there, the final piece from this goal, co-written by Messi and Anadol, will be auctioned at Christie's, with the proceeds going to charitable initiatives, Spanish newspaper Marca said.

Messi launched a campaign to find his favorite goal to support the charity program "Goals in Life" about 10 days ago, with the video of the goals posted on social networks attracting more than 50 million views.

Messi and his Inter Miami teammates have returned to training to prepare for their next MLS (USA) match against Philadelphia Union away at 6:30 a.m. on May 25. Among the goals selected above, Messi also included the goals he scored for Inter Miami in their 2023 Leagues Cup championship campaign.

Messi's charity goal campaign is also in partnership with the Inter Miami Charity Foundation, in which David Beckham, the club's chairman and co-owner, is also involved and partners with charity programs around the world.
