Although the new school year is approaching, many parents in Ho Chi Minh City are still struggling to find and buy textbooks.
According to records at Phuoc Tai Bookstore (Hoc Mon district) on August 21, despite the hot noon, the number of people coming to buy textbooks for their children was very large. Staff continuously asked parents which set of books they were looking for and which grade they were looking for so they could get the right ones.

Mr. Hoang Quan (Trung Chanh commune, Hoc Mon district) said that buying textbooks has never been as difficult as this year. "I have to go at noon so that the bookstore is less crowded and easier to find. My wife and I have been looking for several days but still do not have enough textbooks for grade 10" - he sighed.
The same class but the school's training program teaches many different sets of textbooks. For convenience and to find the right books that the school requires, some parents choose to order from the school library. However, the situation of buying books here is not much better.

Ms. Nguyen Xuan (Ba Diem commune, Hoc Mon district) had to go to school 3 times to buy the full set of 4th grade textbooks of the Creative Horizon series. "When I received the notice, I rushed to school to buy it right away. When I bought it, it was the last set of 4th grade textbooks" - she said.
Meanwhile, at Fahasa Bookstore (Tan Binh District), textbooks are fully displayed, each book has a carefully listed price. Parents can buy books in sets or buy each book separately. Mr. Thanh Quang, a salesman, said that most schools in districts 12, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu use textbooks from the Creative Horizon series.

Having too many different textbooks makes it difficult for parents and students to find the right one.
According to Mr. Quang, there are many different textbook sets on the market such as Creative Horizon, Connecting Knowledge with Life, and Kite. To avoid wasting time or buying the wrong textbook, parents should clearly list the book name, which set, which grade... so that the sales staff can assist.

In addition to textbooks, many parents also buy additional learning tools and reference books for different subjects.
Ms. Ngoc Hang (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) tiredly said that she had to go to 4 bookstores to find enough textbooks for her child's 11th grade class. Among them, the books in the series Connecting Knowledge and Life were the most difficult to buy.
"A school year requires a lot of money, the high price of books combined with the difficulty of buying them makes parents quite tired. Parents often have to "reserve" books in advance at bookstores around their children's school, and when the books are available, they immediately run out to buy them" - Ms. Hang shared.
