Michelin Guide Vietnam 2024 officially puts Da Nang on the podium of fame

New stars emerge

True to the reputation of the world -recognized culinary guide, the Michelin Guide Vietnam Ceremony 2024 event has caused a stir in the domestic and foreign media for many days before the official list announcement on the evening of June 27.

In its second year of presence in Vietnam, in addition to the list of old and new restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City that were selected and honored, Michelin Guide for the first time brought Da Nang to the podium of the most prestigious culinary "playground" in the world.

At this year's announcement ceremony, a total of 7 restaurants were awarded 1 Michelin star (including 2 new restaurants and 1 restaurant upgraded from Michelin Selected); 58 establishments received Bib Gourmand (including 28 new establishments and 1 restaurant transferred from Michelin Selected); and 99 restaurants were on the Michelin Selected list. Of which, the new establishments included in this year's list include 10 establishments in Hanoi , 26 establishments in Ho Chi Minh City and 36 names from Da Nang.

The most prestigious names in the Michelin Guide Vietnam Ceremony 2024 announcement ceremony are 3 new restaurants that have achieved 1 Michelin star, including: La Maison 1888 at InterContinental Danang Peninsula Resort; Akuna (HCMC), and The Royal Pavilion (HCMC)

Nen Danang Restaurant became the first and only restaurant in Vietnam to be awarded 1 Green Star - Michelin Green Star for its commitment to sustainable cuisine and efforts to promote the use of local ingredients.

The list of honored restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this year includes familiar names from Michelin Guide 2023 such as Anan Saigon, Gia restaurant, Hibana By Koki, and Tam Vi.

This year's awards also honored three individuals who won the Michelin Guide Special Awards: Toan Nguyen of La Maison 1888 won the sole Sommelier Award; the Young Chef Award was given to Duy Nguyen of Little Bear, a Michelin Selected restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City; and Mr. Nguyen of Si Dining, a Michelin Selected restaurant in Da Nang, was awarded the Service Award for his outstanding service skills.

Da Nang – from "culinary heritage" to "kitchen" of the world

In Da Nang, 36 establishments were honored, including 16 establishments in the Bib Gourmand; 19 restaurants/eateries in the Michelin Selected list; and especially La Maison 1888 restaurant in the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula resort, which received 1 Michelin star. Located in the resort that has been honored by the World Travel Awards for 4 consecutive years as the most luxurious in the world, La Maison 1988 was known as the first restaurant in Vietnam to cooperate with chef Pierre Gagnaire - one of the 10 best chefs in the world, owning prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants.

For Da Nang, officially becoming the third culinary destination of Michelin Guide in Vietnam not only affirms the appeal of its famous dishes, but is also an opportunity for the central capital to once again affirm its position as a dynamic and attractive international destination.

Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, affirmed: "The brilliance of a destination like Da Nang associated with Michelin makes the city's appeal stronger and stronger. Choosing Da Nang to evaluate and award stars is a very correct, accurate and quality direction of Michelin when this is an emerging destination, a city worth visiting and worth living".

With the presence of prestigious Michelin stars, Da Nang has become the "kitchen" of even the most demanding diners around the world.

Considered a culinary paradise representing the quintessence of Central Vietnam culture, Da Nang attracts food lovers and anonymous experts with its excellent quality dishes and rich culinary heritage. The Michelin Guide Vietnam 2024 party has many old names, and also many "new dishes" from 3 big cities. There is also much controversy surrounding why many restaurants that are loved by locals were not selected by Michelin Guide's appraisers. But to overcome the strict standards of Michelin Guide, to be selected for appraisal through many rounds by this organization's anonymous appraisers, is not an easy thing. Therefore, being named on the night of announcing the Michelin Guide Vietnam 2024 list is not only the luck and pride of each culinary establishment, but also the honor of destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang as well as Vietnam in general. For another year, Vietnam affirms its position as an attractive international culinary destination.
