According to meteorological experts, the weather in Hanoi and the North in February recorded many unusual fluctuations. In particular, the change of cold air caused prolonged rain and cold, exceeding the average of many years. Among them, the strong development of cold air shifted to the east, causing the weather in the area to be always cold and rainy almost the whole month.

In Hanoi, the temperature has been recorded to fluctuate between 15-18 degrees Celsius for many days, making it cold. On February 24, the highest temperature of the day was 14.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature since the beginning of 2025.

According to observation data over the past 10 years, when La Nina appears, February temperatures are usually colder than January. This year, La Nina also appeared and caused an increase in the frequency and intensity of cold air waves in February, making the average temperature in February lower than in January.

Meteorological experts say that in March, the weather will continue to be unusual, especially with prolonged drizzle and humidity.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, during this period, cold air waves will flow into our country with a higher frequency than the average of many years. Therefore, the average monthly temperature in the Northern region, even from Thanh Hoa to Hue, is about 0.5-1 degree lower than the same period in previous years.

Notably, in March, cold air masses tend to move eastward, that is, they move more from the sea to the mainland instead of directly from the continent. This leads to not only cold weather but also light rain, drizzle and prolonged fog, especially in the northeastern and north central provinces. In the first half of March, severe cold is likely to appear, concentrated in the northern mountainous areas.

Forecasting the cold air coming in the first week of March (around the night of March 4-5), the meteorological agency said that there may be severe cold in the northern mountainous areas. The plains will also feel the cold air clearly, the cold weather will last all day.

According to the temperature table above, it can be seen that the weather in Hanoi in the coming days will have showers, followed by sunshine. After that, when the cold air flows in, it will rain lightly, and the temperature will drop rapidly; from March 7, the lowest temperature will remain at 15-17 degrees, cold weather.

From around March 6, the area from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa is likely to have scattered rain and showers; from March 7, the weather will turn cold in Quang Binh-Hue.

In addition, also in March, heat increased in the Southern region (concentrated in the Eastern provinces) and appeared locally in the Northwest and North Central regions.

The Central region is likely to have some days of scattered showers and thunderstorms; the Southern region may have unseasonal thunderstorms.
