Indonesian media confirmed that the Japanese automaker has sent invitations to the Mitsubishi Destinator launch event on July 17. Although the company has not announced the official name, many sources believe that the Destinator will be a commercial 7-seat SUV developed from the DST Concept. Previously, Mitsubishi posted a “hinting” photo about the preparation to launch a new model, with the message: “Ready to Uncover Your Next Destination?”. This move quickly attracted attention, in the context of the Japanese car company promoting its SUV strategy in Southeast Asia.
The DST Concept was launched globally in Vietnam in early June 2025, positioned as a completely new 7-seat SUV, developed specifically for the Southeast Asian market. The design of the car makes many people think that this is the 7-seat version of the Mitsubishi Xforce B-class SUV, which is having quite good sales in many markets. Since the end of March 2023, Mitsubishi has registered the trademark “Destinator” in Indonesia under the company name MITSUBISHI JIDOSHA KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA (Tokyo, Japan) for a line of vehicles and vehicle components. Therefore, the official name of the DST Concept is most likely Destinator. Based on the vehicle's size, it can be predicted that Destinator will be the product that fills the gap between Xforce and Pajero Sport, and replaces the position that Outlander used to hold before being discontinued in Vietnam.
Destinator is expected to debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025, which will take place from mid-July. This is considered one of the most important auto events in the region, where many automakers choose to launch strategic products. After being launched in Indonesia - Mitsubishi's key market in ASEAN, it is likely that this new SUV will also be sold in other markets such as Thailand, the Philippines and especially Vietnam, where the DST Concept had an impressive introduction. According to some sources, the Destinator will be developed on the same chassis and engine platform as the Xforce, but expanded to serve the 7-seat configuration. Specifically, the standard version can use a 1.5L MIVEC 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine (code 4A91), producing 105 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. This is the engine currently used for the Xforce in Vietnam and Indonesia. In addition, Mitsubishi is said to be considering a hybrid option, with a 1.6L gasoline engine (code 4A92) combined with a 116 horsepower electric motor. This hybrid system has appeared on some models in the Japanese market and can be refined to suit operating conditions and prices in Southeast Asia.
The car is likely to only have a front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration, to optimize costs and cabin space, instead of using a four-wheel drive system like on the Pajero Sport. In Vietnam, when introducing the DST Concept, Mitsubishi emphasized its ability to meet family needs with 3 spacious rows of seats, equipped with 5 driving modes, tire pressure sensors and especially the ADAS active safety package.
