Nearly 20 years ago, Mr. Nguyen Ba Phi leased an agricultural area in An Thuong village (Thuong Vuc commune) for aquaculture. Not long after, realizing the great potential of frogs, he switched to large-scale farming.

All beginnings are hard, in the early days of frog farming, Mr. Phi encountered many difficulties. The initial investment capital for frog farming was large, along with limited knowledge of care techniques and disease prevention for frogs.

With great determination, he spent all the money he had saved after many years of working to renovate ponds and build a frog farm system. He himself also traveled many times to the southern localities to learn practical production knowledge.

By learning and accumulating practical experience, Mr. Phi is now confident that he has enough knowledge to master the techniques of raising frogs for breeding and commercial purposes. The scale of Mr. Phi's frog farm is expanding day by day, now reaching nearly 3 hectares.

According to Mr. Phi, being proactive in the supply of breeding stock is an advantage. In addition, the work of preventing and controlling animal diseases in general, and frogs in particular, is given special attention and well implemented by Mr. Phi. Thanks to that, the impacts on frogs are effectively controlled.

On average, Mr. Phi's family earns a profit of more than 600 million VND each year.
On average, Mr. Phi's family earns a profit of more than 600 million VND each year.

Currently, on average, Mr. Phi raises 3 batches of frogs each year, each batch lasting more than 2 months. Each batch of frogs supplies the market with 20 - 30 tons of commercial frogs and millions of frog breeds.

“Frogs can be sold when they reach 1.3 - 1.4 kg each. The current selling price is about 53,000 - 54,000 VND/kg. After deducting production costs, my family earns about 200 million VND per batch…” - Mr. Phi added.

The good news, according to Mr. Phi, is that the farm's products currently have no worries about output. After nearly 20 years, he has built a stable channel for consuming commercial frogs and frog breeds. In addition to Hanoi , which is the main consumer market, Mr. Phi also supplies to farms in many provinces and cities across the country.

Sharing with Kinh te va Do thi reporters, Mr. Phi said that the new rural development program has helped the production infrastructure in Thuong Vuc commune in particular to be upgraded more and more synchronously. This helps facilitate trade and transportation of goods so that farms can develop.

Chairman of Thuong Vuc Commune People's Committee Pham Thi Thanh Huyen said that Mr. Phi is one of the typical farmers actively producing and doing business in the commune in particular and Chuong My district in general. His family's frog farming model has attracted many people to visit and learn from his experience.

In the coming time, the local government will continue to support farm economic models, including Mr. Phi's household, to have the best production conditions. The commune People's Committee will also study and implement policies to support farm economic development to diversify livelihoods and improve people's lives.
