According to information on the official Paris 2024 Olympic website, traditional Vietnamese pho and spring rolls are included in the nutritional menu for athletes participating in this biggest sporting event on the planet.
Notably, in the "Soup of the Day" section of the Asian booth, pho was served in all three main meals for the athletes. The introduction described pho as a culinary icon of Vietnam, made from bone broth and rice noodles, accompanied by various other ingredients.

Nutritional information and energy content (kcal) of pho are described in detail on the homepage. It is known that this dish is rich in carbohydrates (starch, sugar, and fiber), providing sufficient energy for athletes during competition.
Besides pho, spring rolls (nem cuốn) have also been included on Asian menus, often described as "Vietnamese culinary specialty." This dish consists of a thin rice paper wrapper encasing a filling of vegetables. Sometimes it also includes boiled pork and shrimp. Nutritional information indicates that spring rolls are suitable for vegetarians due to their high starch and fiber content.
The inclusion of pho and spring rolls in the menu of the Paris 2024 Olympics by host country France not only allows Vietnamese athletes to enjoy familiar dishes in a foreign land, boosting their morale, but also provides an opportunity to promote traditional Vietnamese cuisine to the international community.
At previous Olympic Games, Vietnamese dishes have been included on the menu quite often. Vietnamese pho even appeared at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (Japan), with the beef replaced by the signature Wagyu beef.
At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics (Brazil), athletes were also served stir-fried pho. This demonstrates that Vietnamese cuisine is increasingly asserting its position on the world stage.
Reportedly, the dining area at the 2024 Olympic Games is divided into six main zones, including Europe (World), Asia (Asian), Halal (Islamic), etc., to meet the needs of athletes from many countries. Along with these are 11 supplementary stalls offering street food, sandwiches, burgers, pastries, and more. All dishes are prepared by Michelin-starred chefs.
With this arrangement, the host country hopes that athletes from around the world will experience comfortable dining as if they were competing in their own country, catering to diverse tastes and cultural preferences.
" We strive to meet all needs and provide the athletes with the best possible food," said Grégoire Béchu, Director of the Sustainable Food Project at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
