According to Thailand's Khaosod newspaper, on the evening of December 12th, rescue forces in Chonburi province received an emergency report and quickly transported eight athletes (two women and six men) to Chonburi Hospital suffering from severe abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, and diarrhea. These were all athletes from the host country who had competed in various sports held in Chonburi, including paragliding, waterskiing, and other extreme sports.

The incident quickly caused a public outcry amidst the ongoing SEA Games 33 in Thailand. Initial suspicions suggested that the athletes suffered from food poisoning due to consuming food provided by the organizing committee.
However, Associate Professor Sermsak Sumanon, head of the medical department of the Thai Sports Delegation, has spoken out to deny this rumor.
Mr. Sumanon asserted that the incident did not stem from the food or drink provided by the SEA Games organizing committee.
According to initial investigations, the aforementioned group of athletes consumed a boxed lunch at a hotel not part of the SEA Games organizing committee's official partner network before moving to the accommodation area for participating delegations on December 11-12.

The Vietnamese women's futsal team's lunch is provided by the organizers.
Currently, the health condition of all eight athletes has stabilized, and they have been allowed to return to the hotel arranged by the organizing committee. The medical team will continue to closely monitor them to ensure their absolute safety for the remainder of the SEA Games 33.
Although no final conclusion has been reached, the incident once again highlights the importance of strictly controlling athletes' diets and lifestyles, especially during the demanding competition period at a major sporting event like the SEA Games.
