A unique cultural feature

NDO – As usual, celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival early is a "specialty" in Tuyen Quang . For the past month, neighborhood groups in Tuyen Quang province have been working together to create giant Mid-Autumn lantern models in preparation for the 2024 Thanh Tuyen Festival.

With nearly 10 years of experience making giant Mid-Autumn Festival lantern models, Mr. Pham Ngoc Tuyen, owner of a lantern production facility in Group 2, Minh Xuan Ward, Tuyen Quang City, said: "Previously, making models from bamboo or rattan was difficult. Later, we switched to using iron, which is easier to bend and shape, and when glued on, it covers the woven edges, making the models look more beautiful."

Mr. Tuyen smiled and shared that since the beginning of the year, he has only "focused on producing" 14 models. The models were ordered from residential areas in the locality and also from distant provinces such as Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi , and Thanh Hoa.

Over the years, Mr. Tuyen has become a skilled craftsman with extensive experience in creating vivid lamp models in various shapes, themes, and sizes.

Having years of experience in model making, this year the residents of Group 6, Tan Quang Ward, Tuyen Quang City, have come together to brainstorm ideas, develop a theme, and design a model called "Legends of Tuyen Quang".

The model depicts a dragon boat gliding on the Lo River to Na Hang, a land of 99 mountains. At the mountaintop is a phoenix, a symbol of prosperity, bringing new opportunities and success to the land and its people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Head of Residential Group 6, Tan Quang Ward, Tuyen Quang City, shared: “Through this model, we want to remind our children to strive to study well, to train themselves to be worthy successors to the patriotic and homeland-loving traditions of the people of Tuyen Quang, and to tell the world that Tuyen Quang is very beautiful.”

After more than three months of working together to create the model, it is now complete and ready to participate in the festival. All costs for making the model were discussed and unanimously contributed by the local people.

After preparations starting about a month before the Mid-Autumn Festival, every evening, giant Mid-Autumn Festival models in various unique shapes take to the streets around Tuyen Quang city, filling them with vibrant colors, sounds, and dazzling lights.

This year, over 100 giant and mini Mid-Autumn Festival lantern models participated in the parade.

The Thanh Tuyen Festival is a unique and distinctive Mid-Autumn Festival of Tuyen Quang province, featuring hundreds of giant, brightly colored lantern models. It has been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records Vietnam as the festival with the most unique and largest Mid-Autumn lantern models in Vietnam.

Over the years, the festival has become a famous and unique tourism product of Tuyen Quang, attracting tens of thousands of domestic and international tourists each time it takes place. This contributes to concretizing the goals, tasks, and solutions for developing tourism into an important economic sector of the province.

Alongside these are provincial-level activities, including: the 2024 Tuyen Quang Provincial Ethnic Groups' Culture and Sports Festival; the exchange and performance of intangible cultural heritage representing humanity; the "Cinema with Tuyen Quang" program; the Tuyen Quang Provincial Trade and Tourism Fair; the "Exhibition and Introduction of Vietnamese Culinary Excellence" program and the Hanoi Beer Festival; sports competitions and many other activities in response from districts and cities,... promising to bring special emotions and impressions to people and tourists when visiting Tuyen Quang.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tuyen Quang province, informed: “At this point, everything is ready to welcome tourists to visit and experience the festival. We will certainly do our best to ensure that when tourists come to visit and experience the festival during this time, they will feel truly comfortable, secure, and very welcome.”

Mr. Vu Xuan Quynh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Quang Ward, Tuyen Quang City, said that the People's Committee of the ward has widely disseminated information to all officials, Party members, and people in the area about the code of conduct for the 2024 Thanh Tuyen Festival, ensuring good preparation for the Intangible Cultural Heritage Performance Festival and the Thanh Tuyen Festival. Particular emphasis is placed on appropriate conduct towards tourists.

In particular, 26 hotels, guesthouses, homestays, and 44 restaurants and other cultural and tourism service businesses under the ward's management all meet the conditions to welcome tourists during the festival and commit to not arbitrarily raising prices or soliciting tourists.

The ward effectively launched the "Beautify Our Streets" movement, with 100% of residential groups in the area developing ideas and implementing decorations for streets and alleys. The focus was on decorating Binh Thuan Street with LED lights and greenery, which is the main route for the parade of giant Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns.

The 2024 Festival of Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the Thanh Tuyen Festival is a unique cultural and tourism event of Tuyen Quang, bearing a national brand and aiming for international recognition. Through this, it aims to enhance the introduction and promotion of the image of the land, culture, people, potential, strengths, and attractive tourism products of the province to the whole country and foreign tourists, especially the distinctive historical and cultural values ​​of the revolutionary homeland – the capital of the Liberation Zone.

In order to leave a positive impression on visitors, the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang city has issued a code of conduct to build a "civilized - friendly - clean and beautiful" city culture during festivals.

Accommodation and food service establishments have ensured all conditions are met to welcome tourists during the festival and have committed to not arbitrarily raising prices or soliciting tourists; ensuring security, order, and environmental hygiene.
