MU is willing to take a loss to offload Antony. |
British media outlets have unanimously reported that Manchester United want to receive £40 million if Antony leaves. He is among the 10 players who could depart for MU this summer. The Old Trafford club wants to increase its transfer budget to bring in players suitable for manager Ruben Amorim.
MU would accept a significant loss if Antony were to leave for £40 million. In the summer of 2022, the "Red Devils" paid over £80 million to bring the Brazilian striker from Ajax.
Antony scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists in 12 games for Real Betis. This high performance attracted interest from Atletico Madrid as well as several Serie A teams. The £40 million transfer fee was considered a success for MU.
Antony had unsuccessful seasons at Old Trafford, scoring only 12 goals and providing 5 assists in 96 games. He is considered one of the worst signings in the club's history.
On March 31st, Antony continued to shine, helping Real Betis defeat Sevilla 2-1 at home in the 29th round of La Liga. After the match, midfielder Isco jokingly said, "The whole team should donate money to buy Antony outright."
Isco's statement comes as Real Betis are in negotiations with Manchester United to keep Antony for at least another season. Initially, Betis proposed a loan deal for the Brazilian star for 18 months, but financial difficulties forced them to settle for a shorter six-month agreement.
The problem is that MU doesn't want to continue loaning Antony out, as his current contract only runs until 2027. Meanwhile, Betis only have to pay a portion of the striker's salary. MU wants Betis to buy Antony outright, but the La Liga club doesn't have the budget to finalize the deal.
