The People's Committee of Thu Lum commune (Muong Te district, Lai Chau province) said that at around 7:00 a.m. on January 17, a hailstorm occurred in the area, causing damage to some crops.
Hail appeared locally in the central area of the commune for about 15 minutes, hailstones were about the size of a fingertip.
According to initial statistics, hail damaged about 1.5 hectares of crops, without causing any damage to people or civil works.
Hail in Lai Chau usually occurs in March every year. This year, hail appeared earlier, showing that the weather is complicated and unpredictable. Local authorities, functional agencies, and people need to proactively prepare plans to prevent natural disasters.
