After merging the three communes of Muong Bang, Muong Do and Muong Lang of the old Phu Yen district, the new Muong Bang commune has a total natural area of over 279 km²; of which, there are more than 17,223 hectares of forest. On average, the locality receives 3 billion VND in forest environmental services per year. From the forest service payment source, Muong Bang commune directs the villages to invest in planting, enclosing, regenerating and protecting forests. Promote the role of the community in forest management and protection; step up propaganda, raise community awareness about protecting the forest area well.
Mr. Tran Hai Thanh, Chairman of Muong Bang Commune People's Committee, shared: The commune has directed the villages to be open and transparent in managing and using forest environmental service fees in accordance with regulations, for the right purposes and effectively; to strengthen inspections, promptly detect and strictly handle acts of forest encroachment; to consolidate and fully equip labor protection equipment, forest patrol and guard tools, forest fire prevention and fighting tools for the village's forest protection groups and teams. To promote the supervisory role of the Fatherland Front and self-governing groups in the villages in protecting the remaining forest area in the area, striving to achieve a forest coverage rate of 65% by 2030.
In Cai village, nearly 889 hectares of forest are managed and protected. Every year, the village receives over 437 million VND in forest environmental services. Mr. Phung Van Khue, Party cell secretary and village head, said: The village held a meeting with the people to discuss and agree to use it to purchase equipment for patrolling and protecting the forest and to allocate a portion to invest in building essential works to serve the people's lives and production. In 2024 alone, the fund was used to pour concrete on 85 meters of internal village roads.
Mr. Phung Van Giong, Party cell secretary and head of Bang village, said: The village manages and protects 1,170 hectares of forest, and has been paid more than 522 million VND for forest environmental services. The villagers agreed to allocate 125 million VND to maintain and repair welfare facilities and internal village roads, facilitating travel and trade of goods.
The effective use of money paid for forest environmental services in Muong Bang helps people have more income and more funds to invest in building new rural areas; especially raising awareness and responsibility of people and communities in protecting and developing forests, maintaining a sustainable living environment and creating conditions for people to make a living from forestry.
