According to a U.S. official quoted by CBS News, the attacks were described as "defensive" actions. The U.S. official affirmed that the ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran remains in effect despite the new military developments.
The source also stated that US forces intercepted several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran. However, the US has not released details about the location of the incidents or the extent of the damage following the airstrikes.
This latest airstrike comes just two days after the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it had conducted “self-defense” attacks in southern Iran. According to CENTCOM spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins, targets included missile launchers and several Iranian vessels allegedly attempting to lay mines at sea. Washington stated the operation was carried out to protect U.S. troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.
On Tehran's side, Iranian officials strongly condemned the earlier US airstrikes, calling them a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement, and warned that Iran would not allow any hostile actions to go unanswered.

The latest military developments come as President Donald Trump continues to pressure Iran to accept a long-term agreement with Washington. The US leader also sent a strong message that Washington is ready to resume its airstrike campaign with greater intensity if Tehran does not accept the conditions of the current negotiations. President Trump believes Iran is prolonging the negotiations to wait for increased political and economic pressure on the US, but affirmed that Washington “can wait longer.”
