US says progress made with Ukraine on peace proposal

The US and Ukraine have confirmed "progress" in talks on a 28-point peace plan proposed by Washington to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the US, Ukraine and European partners met to discuss the 28-point peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump in Geneva (Switzerland) on November 23. At a press conference at 6 p.m. on November 23, the US and Ukraine both confirmed that they had made "progress" in negotiations on the US peace plan.

However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio refused to disclose any details about the day's discussions in Geneva.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the day's talks were "productive", while saying he remained "very optimistic" about reaching an agreement soon in "a reasonable amount of time".

"There is no agreement yet... Some require higher-level decisions and consultations. There are still differences and issues that 'need more time to resolve,'" he added.

"The remaining issues are not unsolvable. Some issues related to the European Union (EU) or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) need to be discussed further with European partners," the top US diplomat stressed.

Following the discussion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media that it was necessary to ensure "steps to end the conflict are effective and everything is possible".
