On October 8, Bloomberg reported that the US government has approved the export of Nvidia chips worth billions of dollars to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Specifically, the US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security recently issued an export license to Nvidia under the terms of a bilateral agreement on Artificial Intelligence (AI) reached in May.
The deal will see the UAE build data centers essential for developing AI models. The approval comes after the UAE made concrete plans for a corresponding investment on US soil.
The parties involved have yet to comment on this information. The US and the UAE currently have a preliminary agreement that will allow the Gulf country to import 500,000 of Nvidia's most advanced AI chips per year, starting in 2025.
The deal runs until at least 2027, but is likely to last until 2030.
US President Donald Trump has made improving relations with several Gulf states a central goal of his administration.
In May, during a trip to the Gulf region, Mr. Trump announced $600 billion worth of commitments from Saudi Arabia, including deals to buy large quantities of chips from Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices, and Qualcomm./.
