At the leading North American fashion exhibitions taking place in Las Vegas (USA), many international units expressed deep concern about the possibility of the US increasing import taxes, saying that this would increase costs, reduce profits and disrupt the global supply chain.
This week’s events have attracted thousands of brands, suppliers and retailers from around the world . But behind the glitzy booths and new product launches, many businesses are expressing deep uncertainty.
Christine Loule, vice president of Canadian fashion brand Tribal Fashion, said the biggest concern is policy uncertainty. She said the company has had to raise prices by about 7% for its Spring 2026 collection to try to balance staying afloat and keeping prices at acceptable market levels.
Many American brands share this concern. Sami Saadia, CEO of Kids World of USA, said that all of his company's products are manufactured in China. "If costs increase, the end customer will have to pay for it," he said.
Many businesses say that moving production out of China is not easy. Ms. Loule highly values the quality of raw materials and garment techniques from China, saying that it will be difficult to find a replacement partner that maintains the same quality.
Similarly, Mr. Chris Schnall - President of Global Footwear, also said that the company tried to move operations to Southeast Asia but could not achieve the desired quality at the same price.
In some cases, change is simply impossible. Nafisa Bawa, owner of Orange Fashion Village, a Canadian company, believes that bamboo products must be made in China because that’s where they grow the most bamboo. She says that if tariffs increase, businesses will accept lower profits to retain customers.
Despite facing great pressure, businesses at the exhibition still showed their strength. According to Ms. Loule, this is a common challenge that the entire business community has had to overcome over the past time./.
