Việt NamViệt Nam29/09/2023

President Ho Chi Minh taught: “Diligently reading books and reading many books is a necessary thing, because books can help us supplement our knowledge and perfect our personality”. Following Uncle Ho's teachings, Tan Phong Primary School (Lai Chau city) has implemented many solutions to develop a reading culture. In which, it focuses on improving the effectiveness of library activities associated with developing the qualities and abilities of students according to the 2018 generaleducation program.

We visited Tan Phong Primary School when the drum sounded to signal recess. In addition to their favorite games, many students turn to story books as a way to relieve stress after school. We saw Le Khanh Ly, a student in class 5A1, attentively reading a funny story, occasionally bursting out laughing. Ly confided: I really like reading books, so when I have free time, I go to the library to borrow books to read. This not only helps me relax after stressful lessons but also helps me write better, equipping me with more knowledge to study better.
At Tan Phong Primary School, it is easy to see bookshelves and bookcases of various genres to help students both play and read in many locations. Teacher Nguyen Quang Tinh - Principal of the school said: According to the general education program, the application of information technology in teaching is considered the lifeblood of innovation, the library is considered the heart of the school. Therefore, the school focuses on building and renovating school libraries. Currently, the school has 4 library environments: central library, green library, lobby and classroom corner library, electronic library. The library ensures synchronization of equipment, facilities, and learning materials to meet the needs of administrators, teachers, and students, attracting many students to study and experience.

Students of Tan Phong Primary School participate in reading class at the library.

In the 2022-2023 school year, the school library was expanded and upgraded to increase seating space. In addition to maintaining good reading periods for students according to the content and program, the school increased activities to promote reading, self-study, and self-research movements. Launched a reading competition; "Drawing pictures from books", "Reading culture ambassador" contest... These activities have a direct impact on the formation of reading habits as well as the school's reading culture, contributing to building personality associated with developing students' qualities and abilities.
During the implementation process, the school has done a good job of educating and promoting awareness among administrators, teachers, students, and parents about building a reading culture. In particular, the school has coordinated with the Provincial Library to carry out book circulation, participate in Book Day and Reading Culture, attracting a large number of students and parents to participate.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Luong, a librarian, to improve operational efficiency, right from the beginning of the school year, the library conducts a survey of students' reading needs by grade level to grasp and classify reading needs. From there, it advises on purchasing plans and identifies sources of materials that are suitable for students' learning and entertainment needs. At the same time, it develops a suitable library activity plan with flexible forms of activities to create excitement for students to come and read and study. In addition, to enrich the books as well as meet the needs of readers at the library, every year the school organizes a campaign to collect and give away books on Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day.
Documents, books, and library equipment are arranged and classified according to reading levels to help students easily find and use them according to their needs, which is one of the contents that the school is interested in implementing. Accordingly, the school arranges space, takes advantage of classroom corners, stair corridors to create friendly libraries to help students easily access and develop a reading culture. Reading timetable in libraries, borrowing and returning schedules of classes are built scientifically and effectively, creating conditions for students to participate. In libraries, the school arranges additional activity corners such as: language development game corners, search corners, creativity corners, etc. to practice document search skills, encourage students to read many different types of books and promote creativity. Thereby, contributing to improving students' capacity as well as the quality of education.
