Previously, the economic life of Mr. Lu Van Dien's family in Dinh Danh village (Ma Quai commune) was difficult, production was backward, especially livestock farming by letting livestock roam freely, not paying attention to disease prevention, so it did not bring economic efficiency. With the encouragement and guidance of the commune, he changed his method, focusing on care and disease prevention, so the livestock herd developed, bringing income to the family.

Mr. Dien said: Taking advantage of the family's unused land, I built a farm to raise buffalo, cows, chickens, ducks and fish ponds, no longer letting them roam freely but bringing them back to be raised in captivity, using foods such as grass, banana leaves, straw, rice, corn, combined with products from the market. By participating in vocational training classes on livestock farming, consulting and gaining experience on the internet and local livestock households, I choose suitable breeds, proactively prevent diseases, and clean the barns, so I have achieved many results. Currently, I have 10 buffaloes, cows, more than 100 chickens, ducks, a 400m2 fish pond and I also grow 1ha of rice fields, nearly 2ha of cinnamon, cassava, with an annual income of nearly 200 million VND.

Building a solid livestock farm has brought high economic efficiency to Mr. Lu Van Dien's family (Dinh Danh village).

Ma Quai commune has 9 villages, where the ethnic groups: Thai, Lu, Dao, Mong live, people's lives are still difficult, small-scale production, free-range livestock farming. In order to develop livestock farming, create livelihoods for people, the commune has promoted propaganda and mobilization through people's meetings, village meetings, proposed methods to change thinking, ways of doing, eliminate free-range farming, combine herding, semi-natural farming with building barns. At the same time, coordinate with specialized agencies of the district to open vocational training classes on livestock farming in the villages, so that people can exchange, improve knowledge, access science and technology, thereby having good and creative ways of doing things, building specific models. Livestock farming households are also selected breeds suitable for the local climate and soil and how to prevent diseases, clean barns, and handle situations that arise. Besides, the commune also proactively seeks and expands the market for livestock products, increasing income for people.

Livestock farming has changed, no longer small scale but concentrated, with barns, planned and expanded grazing areas, people also grow grass, supplementing food sources. Many households in the village pool capital together to build farms, buy breeds, forming models such as: super egg chickens, ducks, commercial pigs, fattened buffaloes, cows, and breeding goats. The farming method is technical, from the stage of selecting breeds, processing food, building barns, and releasing livestock, all follow specific processes and times. Especially the food source, not only carefully selected and processed but also supplemented with many minerals, so that livestock can develop and have many antibodies to fight pathogens.

The people's livestock farming habits have gradually changed, focusing on waste treatment to avoid environmental pollution. In addition, regular spraying of disinfectants, periodic vaccinations, and minimizing the occurrence of epidemics. Thanks to that, livestock farming has increasingly developed, up to now, the whole commune has 3,722 cattle, 14,349 poultry, 15 hectares of aquaculture ponds, the livestock growth rate reaches 5%/year.

Mr. Ca Van Ui - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: Livestock has promoted the potential and strengths of the locality, contributing to reducing the poverty rate of the commune to 38.68%, with an average income of 35 million VND/year. In the coming time, the commune will promote livestock farming, develop more models, call for investment from organizations and businesses, and gradually make livestock farming a strength of the commune in poverty reduction.
