The 2023 - 2025 children's writing campaign of Kim Dong Publishing House attracted more than 600 entries in the genres of poetry, short stories, novels..., from which 11 excellent works were selected to award the first Kim Dong Literature Award.
Well written, talented and young is even more commendable
Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien - Deputy Director, Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House - shared:
"The 2023-2025 creative campaign and the first Kim Dong Literature Award are constantly striving to find new works and authors to introduce to readers, while creating momentum for the next step of development, in the context of Vietnam promoting the development of the cultural industry and promoting culture and literature to the world ."
During the competition, more than 40 works were published, such as: Do you like being a cat? (Hoai Thu), Flock of sheep flying across the city (Huynh Trong Khang), Heart of the island (Ho Huy Son)...
The age range of authors participating in the 2023-2025 creative campaign ranges from 9 to 93 years old, also showing the special appeal of children's literature to many generations of writers.
The final jury, including writers and poets Tran Duc Tien, Nguyen Nhat Anh, Ly Lan, and Nguyen Thuy Anh, reached a high consensus in selecting worthy works for awards.
Writer Tran Duc Tien, chairman of the final judging panel, said: "The main goal of any contest or creative movement is to produce excellent works and discover talented authors.
Good writing, talented and young people are even more commendable. They are the future of literature in general, and children's literature in particular. Many excellent works that won high prizes in this campaign belong to young people. We think that is the most significant success of the first Kim Dong Literature Award."

Nguyen Ngoc Thuan inspired Giai Du to write
The first prize winner is Giai Du, 24 years old, currently studying for a master's degree in literary theory at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City.
The novel What to do when the wind blows, about 30,000 words, was written by Giai Du in 1 month. Confiding to the press, Giai Du said:
"The book tells about 20 things we can do when the wind blows. Throughout the 20 chapters of the book, the main character talks about these jobs, thereby showing a childish perspective on the world and love for everyone around.
I read many authors, among them I like writer Nguyen Ngoc Thuan with the work "Opening the Window While Closing My Eyes ". This is also the person who inspired me to write "What to Do When the Wind Blows ".

According to the Award's Final Jury, creative layout, mature writing style, consistent humanistic thoughts... are the highlights of the novel What to do when the wind blows , and are also the highlights commonly found in any successful literary work:
"At the age of 10, every time the wind blew, did you wonder what you should do? Hang clothes to dry? Exercise? Eat a candy? Plant a seed? Visit a friend's house?... Plans and activities that seemed simple and separate were connected together naturally and harmoniously, forming a story with profound meaning."
The organizers awarded 11 prizes:
- First prize was awarded to the novel What to do when the wind blows (Giai Du).
- 2 second prizes were awarded to the novel The Story of Menh Mong Village (Nguyen Thi Nhu Hien); the novel The Man with the Pink Truck (Giap Thi Thuy Duong).
- 3 third prizes were awarded to the novella Far Out There in the Fields (Cao Nguyet Nguyen); the poem The Upside Down World (Nguyen Quynh Mai); the novella Pine Forest (Pham Thu Ha).
- 5 fourth prizes were awarded to the novel The Witch Who Buys Scrap (Phat Duong); the novel Our Village Has a Hero (writer Nguyen Quang Lap); the novel The Lion in the Devil's Castle (Quyen Gavoye); the novel The Ancient Book of a Goddess by author Nguyen Hoang Dieu Thuy; the novel Today There Is a God (Lac An).
Kim Dong Publishing House also continues to launch the 2025 - 2027 creative campaign and the second Kim Dong Literature Award.
Expanded readership, including children, teenagers and young adults; with two award systems: Kim Dong Literature Award for outstanding works written for children and Kim Dong Literature Award for outstanding works written for young people.
