Maintain the landscape
Every week, people in Giap Tieu residential group ( Bac Giang ward) enthusiastically participate in Green Sunday, cleaning the streets, taking care of flowers and trees, collecting and transporting garbage. Ms. Chu Thi Minh, Secretary of the residential group Party Cell, said: “The group has 239 households, nearly 1,200 people. Implementing Green Sunday is an important criterion for the residential group to evaluate and judge cultural families and classify cadres and party members. On Saturday afternoon, the residential group management board announces the implementation schedule on the loudspeaker and zalo group for everyone to grasp. Therefore, cadres, party members and people participate in environmental sanitation in large numbers and maintain it regularly.”

Mr. Tran Van Tuan and his wife Tran Thi Hue in lane 1009, despite being busy with work at the office, regularly wake up early to participate in environmental sanitation on weekends. Mr. Tuan shared: "For us, this is not only a responsibility but also a joy. Participating in cleaning up the streets helps to purify the air, improve health and strengthen the relationship between the village and the neighborhood." Thanks to the cooperation of officials and residents, the environmental landscape of the residential group is increasingly clean and beautiful, with no more garbage left. For nearly 20 years, Giap Tieu residential group has continuously achieved the title of cultural residential group; every year, the average rate of cultural families reaches 93-95%.
In the communes of Yen Trung, Van Mon, Tam Da, Tan Dinh, Tien Luc, etc., environmental protection and landscape preservation activities have also been effectively implemented. On the inter-village and inter-commune roads, the fields of ten o'clock flowers are brilliant. Women in the villages and hamlets are the core force in taking care of the flower roads to help keep the landscape clean and beautiful. In particular, in many localities, mural paintings are jointly made by people on fences and village cultural houses, with themes of environmental protection, landscape preservation and civilized lifestyle, etc. The paintings with bright colors not only beautify the space but also spread the message of green living.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Hoa, a member of the elderly association of Ngoc Quan village (Lam Thao commune) excitedly said: “With the attention and investment from superiors, rural infrastructure is becoming more and more spacious and modern. We regularly remind our children and grandchildren and promote and mobilize people to keep the village green - clean - beautiful. With everyone's cooperation, Ngoc Quan village has become a livable countryside with beautiful roads, open spaces, and fresh air.”
Spread the movement
In recent years, localities have had many good models and creative ways of building cultural life associated with environmental protection, creating a ripple effect in the community. Before the merger, Bac Giang province synchronously deployed many solutions to protect the environment and build green - clean - beautiful residential areas. In wards and communes, officials and people actively implemented Directive No. 17 dated February 27, 2020 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on mobilizing the entire population to focus on collecting and thoroughly treating waste released into the environment. The Green Sunday movement was widely launched.
Building a cultural life associated with environmental protection not only helps improve the quality of people's lives but also contributes to preserving cultural identity and forming a civilized lifestyle. In the coming time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will coordinate with sectors and localities to continue to improve the quality of the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", maintain and replicate the model of residential areas "Bright - green - clean - beautiful - safe". Up to now, this activity has become a routine, attracting 70-75% of households in villages and residential groups with representatives to participate in Green Sunday and environmental protection activities. In many wards such as Bac Giang, Da Mai, Tan Tien, Tien Phong, on weekend mornings, people gather to exercise to improve their health, then clean the alleys, dredge sewers, clear and collect garbage in public places. Environmental monitoring teams regularly check and remind households that have not performed well. The Green Sunday scoring criteria are applied to each village and residential group, serving as a basis for emulation evaluation.
In both Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces (old), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organizations to widely implement the campaign "Building a civilized urban and new rural lifestyle". At the grassroots level, environmental protection criteria were included in village and residential group conventions, which are important criteria in considering the recognition of the title of cultural family and cultural residential area. Many creative models were replicated. The Women's Union launched the implementation of the models "Women say no to plastic bags, disposable plastic products", "Family without waste"; "Family of 5 no, 3 clean".
The Farmers' Association implemented the model "Farmers with environmental protection work"; the Youth Union organized "Green People's Market to reduce plastic waste", collected old batteries, electronic waste, competed in making recycled items, painted pictures to protect the environment... Officials and members of mass organizations actively planted trees to create shade, building green - clean - beautiful living spaces in rural and urban areas. The roads with brilliant colors of flowers, the beautiful streets, the exciting cleaning campaigns, or the people's awareness of self-classifying waste... have contributed to changing the appearance of rural and urban areas. By the end of 2024, the whole Bac Giang province will have 75% of green - clean - beautiful - safe residential areas with hundreds of model roads without waste, planted with flowers and trees.
Promoting the achieved results, after the merger, Bac Ninh province continues to promote the movement of building cultural life associated with environmental protection, expanding livable residential areas and villages. According to Mr. Do Tuan Khoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, building cultural life associated with environmental protection not only helps improve the quality of life of people but also contributes to preserving cultural identity and forming a civilized lifestyle.
In the coming time, the Department will continue to coordinate with sectors and localities to focus on improving the quality of the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", in which it will focus on maintaining and expanding the model of "Bright - green - clean - beautiful - safe" residential areas, building a cultural lifestyle in each family. In order for the movement to be more effective, localities need to attach the responsibility of Party committees and grassroots authorities in environmental management; promote propaganda and mobilization so that environmental protection awareness becomes a habit, a voluntary and regular activity of each citizen. Thereby creating community strength in preserving landscapes, developing urban and rural areas, contributing to building Bac Ninh province to be increasingly civilized and rich in identity.
