Going to temples and pagodas to worship and pray for happiness and peace is a beautiful traditional cultural feature of the Vietnamese people every spring and new year. To express proper culture in sacred places and maintain a respectful attitude in spiritual spaces, many people choose appropriate clothing to show their character and culture when going to temples and pagodas.

Previously, due to not really paying attention, many visitors, especially young people, dressed quite comfortably when coming to places of worship, creating offensive images in sacred places.
To reduce the unsightly images, many temples and pagodas in the province have proactively placed signs reminding visitors and Buddhists to wear appropriate and solemn clothing when entering the ceremony, and not to wear short clothes or short skirts when entering the relics.
Shops and businesses around the temple gate have opened a costume rental service to help young people change into appropriate clothing before entering the temple.
Articles and reports on choosing appropriate clothing to wear to temples and pagodas have also been published in the mass media and widely spread on social networks, helping many young people change their awareness and behave in a cultural way when visiting temples and pagodas to worship and worship Buddha. Therefore, in recent years, the situation of wearing revealing and offensive clothes at relics has decreased significantly.
Many people prepare their own costumes for going to the pagoda. Ms. Cao Thi Minh Thoa in Duc Bac commune, Song Lo district often goes to the pagoda, especially at the beginning of spring and the new year.
After being explained by the monks, Ms. Thoa understood that Buddhists and visitors need to maintain the solemnity of the Zen temple in their words, manners, gestures, actions, and clothing. That shows the Buddhists' respect for the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha).

Ms. Thoa said: “I have prepared a traditional ao dai and a set of robes specifically for going to the temple. The outfits ensure modesty, elegance, and politeness, helping me feel more confident and comfortable when going to the temple.
I also tell my friends and relatives to buy temple-going outfits that are discreet, comfortable, and reasonably priced, only from 200,000 to 400,000 VND/set depending on the fabric and design.
Wearing modest, elegant clothing when visiting the temple helps Buddhists and visitors from all over become closer and share more easily with each other, regardless of rich or poor, region... in accordance with the spirit of Buddhism.
Most of the costumes for going to temples and pagodas often have typical colors such as blue, brown, pink with simple motifs such as chrysanthemums, lotus flowers... creating elegance and politeness.
People can easily find these costumes at stores specializing in buying and selling Buddhist costumes; around temples and pagodas or buy them at online shopping websites with designs, materials, colors, and styles suitable for many different ages.
Or people can order costumes specifically for going to temples and pagodas to suit their body shape. Temples do not require Buddhists to wear certain costumes when going to temples, just neat, discreet, and polite. Therefore, people can choose different costumes depending on their needs and preferences.
Some suitable outfits when visiting temples and pagodas to worship and sightsee are traditional ao dai, long pants combined with shirts, robes... with elegant, simple colors; absolutely do not wear revealing outfits such as short skirts, thin, tight clothes because it affects the sacredness and solemnity of temples and pagodas.
Monk Thich Tam Tri, Truc Lam Tue Duc Zen Monastery, Song Lo District said: "Wearing appropriate clothing when going to the temple shows awareness, morality, culture, respect, and solemnity in the Zen temple.
The real purpose of each person when coming to the temple is to find a place of purity, to control all negative and unwholesome thoughts, so dressing flashy, outstanding, and following trends is unnecessary and not suitable for the sacred space of the Zen temple. The temple regularly reminds Buddhists to choose modest and polite clothing when coming to the temple. Now, people have gradually changed their awareness and become more conscious in choosing clothes to wear to the temple.
The clothes worn to temples and pagodas are not only simple and rustic, but also express many profound human values, which is not to pay too much attention to appearance, to direct people's minds back to the core values of life, and to show equality among people. Choosing the right clothes when going to temples and pagodas helps people get closer together, keep their minds pure, and focus on the good values in life.
