Russia's hypersonic missile launch comes a week after two Russian strategic bombers, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, flew over the Sea of Japan for more than seven hours, in what Moscow called a "planned flight".

The P-270 Moskit, NATO reporting name SS-N-22 Sunburn, is a Soviet-origin medium-range supersonic cruise missile capable of destroying a ship at a range of up to 120 km.

The P-270 Moskit missile weighs 4.5 tons, is 9.74m long, and has a body diameter of 0.8m. With this size, the P-270 Moskit is one of the largest anti-ship missiles today.

The P-270 Moskit anti-ship cruise missile was developed by the MKB Raduga design bureau in the 1970s for the mission of destroying surface warships, transport ships in main attack battleship groups, amphibious forces and military convoys, hydrofoils and hovercraft.
