Realizing the dream of housing for workers

For workers, especially migrant workers from other provinces coming to Dong Nai to work, the dream of having their own home is not only a need for survival but also an aspiration to settle down.

The Resolution of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term identifies goals for ensuring social security and improving people's lives, focusing on developing social housing, especially housing for workers and low-income workers. Many workers expect the province's social housing projects to be promoted, creating conditions for workers to have stable housing and peace of mind at work.

Many workers expect to buy social housing.

According to statistics from the Provincial Labor Federation, Dong Nai currently has more than 1.4 million workers working in organizations and enterprises, so the demand for housing is very large. In the province, there are currently about 150,000 rented rooms, providing accommodation for 450,000 workers, the rest have to rent outside with prices ranging from 700,000 VND to 1.5 million VND/month. Although the demand for housing is very large, the development of social housing for workers is still limited.

Employees all want to have stable accommodation to reduce costs and pressure of continuous rent, while creating motivation to stay with the business for a long time.

Ms. Le Thi Ha, a worker living in Long Binh ward, Dong Nai province, said: For many years, she and many other workers have been living in temporary boarding houses, cramped rooms, with potential risks to safety and health. Not to mention the high cost of renting houses, which takes up a significant portion of income. "I and many workers are looking forward to social housing projects in Dong Nai and support for workers to buy at low prices or pay in installments, suitable for their income, so that they can work with peace of mind," Ms. Ha shared.

With low income, some workers choose to live in small boarding houses of 8-12 square meters, sometimes having to share a room with many people to reduce living expenses.

Mr. Tran Dang Hanh, a worker at Minh Thanh Company Limited (Trang Dai Ward) shared: For workers, the basic salary is still low, so their financial capacity is limited, their income is only enough to cover basic living expenses, it is difficult to accumulate enough capital to buy a house. If they are given the opportunity to rent or buy social housing at preferential prices, it will be very convenient for commuting to work and ensuring a life away from home.

The housing needs of workers in Dong Nai are one of the urgent and strategic issues in maintaining a stable and sustainable industrial labor force. Overloading rental housing not only affects the lives of workers but also makes it difficult for businesses to retain skilled workers. Union officials believe that the province needs to pay more attention to the lives and settlements of workers because this is a key force that contributes significantly to the socio -economic development of the province.

Realizing the dream of housing for workers

Developing social housing is an important social security policy of the Party and the State, meeting the housing needs of workers and low-income people. In the long-term plan, Dong Nai aims to complete 65,000 social housing units by 2030, meeting the housing needs of low-income people and workers. In September 2025 alone, the Provincial People's Committee issued 10 decisions to assign investment in social housing projects, with more than 11,000 units and the projects will be completed in the period of 2026-2029.

Also in late September 2025, Dong Nai province started construction and broke ground on 7 social housing projects with nearly 8,000 apartments. The event not only has political significance but also demonstrates the province's determination to solve the urgent housing needs of the people. When the projects are completed, workers will have more opportunities to settle down, stabilize their lives, and contribute more to the overall development of the province.

A typical example is the Social Housing Project in Tam Hiep Ward, with a scale of 18 floors and 540 apartments, which will provide accommodation for 1,300 people. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in early 2028. Ms. Ha Thi Mai, a worker at Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park, Dong Nai Province, said: After more than 15 years of working in Dong Nai, she always wished to be able to buy a social housing unit to settle down. When she learned that the Tam Hiep Ward Social Housing Project had started, she was very excited and had high hopes that the project would be completed soon, creating favorable conditions for workers to buy and rent to have peace of mind about their accommodation.

“After many years of working in Dong Nai, I consider this my second hometown. Determined to work and stay in Dong Nai for a long time, my whole family lives frugally and saves money in the hope of having the opportunity to buy a house at a preferential price. I and many workers expect the province to have policies to support workers with preferential loans, tax policies and subsidies to reduce financial pressure when buying social housing,” Ms. Mai confided.

Accompanying workers, Dong Nai Trade Union has promoted its role of representing, caring for, and protecting the rights of union members and employees. In the period of 2020-2025, the Trade Union at all levels has supported the construction and repair of more than 320 Trade Union Shelter houses for union members in difficult circumstances, with a total cost of over 20 billion VND. The spacious and clean houses handed over every year have created more motivation and excitement for workers, especially those in difficult circumstances.

The social housing projects and works that the province started and broke ground to welcome the 1st Congress of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, are vivid evidence of Dong Nai province's determination in concretizing the major policies of the Party and State on economic development associated with social security. Hopefully, in the coming time, the dream of housing for workers will come true.

In addition, many business owners have invested in building dormitories and schools to meet the practical needs of workers. Mr. Duong Hoang An, Chairman of the Trade Union of Jason Furniture Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Dong Xoai III Industrial Park, Binh Phuoc Ward) said: To meet the housing needs of workers, the company has built a dormitory with 4 high-rise buildings right on the company's campus. Currently, the dormitory has about 2,000 workers living stably and the company exempts 100% of the costs. The company also arranges security guards to ensure the dormitory operates effectively and safely, bringing peace of mind to workers. This has been the company's strategy since its inception to improve the quality of life of workers.
