On the morning of April 24, the port of Sevastopol, home to the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet, was attacked by Ukrainian suicide boats. Mikhail Razvozhaev, the governor of the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, confirmed the attack.
Although Governor Razvozhaev confirmed that the attack from the Ukrainian suicide boat had been repelled, this was still a wake-up call for the Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet. In recent times, the naval port of Sevastopol, where this Fleet is based, has been the target of attacks by Ukrainian unmanned boats.
To deal with the above threat, military expert HI Sutton said the Russian Navy is urgently reinforcing its defense capabilities at the strategic military port of Sevastopol.
"The attack on April 24 was a wake-up call for the Russian Navy, which is making every effort to strengthen its defenses at Sevastopol. The entrance to the port is now protected by six layers of barriers," Sutton said.
Mr. Sutton also revealed that many heavy weapons such as patrol boats, helicopters and artillery batteries were also mobilized to protect the Sevastopol military port. In particular, the Sevastopol defense force also had the participation of a squad of armed dolphins trained by the Russian Navy.
Satellite imagery shows two dolphin pens deployed at the entrance to Sevastopol port. According to Sutton, the dolphins could be tasked with countering divers and suicide boats to prevent sabotage from the Ukrainian side.
The dolphins are part of a program to train marine animals for surveillance and target protection by the Russian Navy. In the Arctic, Beluga whales and seals are also trained for similar missions to protect Russian military bases and oil and gas facilities.

Regarding the April 24 attack, according to Governor Razvozhaev, immediately after the discovery of the Ukrainian suicide boats, the anti-submarine defense system at the Sevastopol naval port was activated, thereby blowing up at least one unmanned boat. The remaining one was also destroyed.
At the scene, the pressure from the explosions caused minor damage to many buildings in the Sevastopol port area. However, Mr. Razvozhaev stated that no Russian Navy warships were damaged after the Ukrainian attack.
Ukraine has not yet commented on the above information.
