On May 27, Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, responded and clarified issues that the public is concerned about regarding the case of the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne, being violated (on May 24).
According to Mr. Trung, the center is establishing a professional council to assess the current state of the Nguyen Dynasty throne, then develop a repair plan in accordance with legal regulations.

Responding to the question of why the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne, is not displayed in a glass cabinet, the head of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that the unit had discussed this issue, but when collecting opinions, they were not suitable for the current display space.
"Because national treasures are a large system, displaying glass cabinets will affect the heritage space. For example, if a fence is built 1.8 m high, it will damage the entire space of Thai Hoa Palace. Before displaying at Thai Hoa Palace, the unit has built a very specific and synchronous plan. The complex of Hue ancient capital relics is very large, so there must be appropriate solutions for visiting, artifacts... Each group of artifacts will have very specific management methods," said Mr. Trung.
Mr. Trung said that the preservation of artifacts has been inherited for decades, through each stage. For artifacts and national treasures, every week, specialized staff from the museum will come to clean and check the current condition of the artifacts. Each type will have its own protection process.
In the coming time, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center will research and apply sensor technology to warn of unusual acts of encroachment on artifacts.
"One of the solutions we came up with is to use AI sensor fences. When someone passes through the restricted area, the virtual fence will recognize and warn. After the incident, I sought out technology experts to learn and will pilot it immediately to find a suitable solution," Mr. Trung shared.
According to Mr. Trung, every year the relic protection force is supported by the police in training. Previously, the guards were equipped with support tools such as electric batons, but because they were too old, they were withdrawn. "Recently, the brothers proposed to buy electric batons again, but there must be a training course on how to use them. After the training is completed, there will be a policy to approve the purchase. In addition, the brothers are also trained in fire prevention and fighting and how to behave."
As Thanh Nien reported, at around 11:55 a.m. on May 24, tourist Ho Van Phuong Tam (42 years old, registered in Ho Chi Minh City, temporarily residing in Huong Long Ward, Phu Xuan District, Hue City) bought a ticket to enter the Hue Imperial City. When entering the Thai Hoa Palace area, Tam acted abnormally and was invited by a security guard to go to the back of the palace. However, the male tourist later returned, sneaked into the area displaying the Nguyen Dynasty throne, shouted, sat on it and broke the front left armrest.
At the time of the incident, there were two security guards at the Thai Hoa Palace. However, to prevent this tourist from acting rashly and destroying other exhibits, the security guard approached from a distance, reminded Tam to go outside, and called to request additional support.
At 12:10 p.m. on May 24, the authorities restrained the male tourist and reported to Dong Ba Ward Police to make a report. At the time of recording the statement, Tam showed signs of psychosis, screaming, talking nonsense and unable to answer questions.
Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Hue City Police is temporarily detaining Tam, conducting a psychiatric assessment of this suspect and coordinating with the People's Procuracy of Phu Xuan District to collect documents and evidence to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the parties involved in order to resolve the case in accordance with the procedures and regulations of the law.
