Ho Chi Minh City: Nghinh Ong Festival - Can Gio 2025 closes with a special art performance program

VHO - On the evening of October 7 in Can Gio commune (HCMC), the Nghinh Ong - Can Gio Festival 2025 closed with a special art performance program and many exciting activities.

The closing art program of the Nghinh Ong Festival - Can Gio 2025 was organized by Tran Huu Trang Theater in coordination with the Festival Organizing Committee.

The art program was elaborately and magnificently staged with many unique performances, including many excerpts from reformed opera and traditional songs praising the homeland of Can Gio.

The performances recreated glorious feats of arms, reenacting the officers and soldiers of the Sac Forest special forces who captured Nha Be hunting grounds, creating the heroic history of the heroic children of Can Gio.

Also on October 7, the Great Worship Ceremony and Hat Boi were performed at the Ong Thuy Tuong Temple. This is an annual custom for coastal people to remember and worship the sacred “Ca Ong”, a god who has always sheltered and protected them every time they go out to sea.

The meaning of the Great Offering is to pray for calm waves, calm seas, favorable weather and wind, so that every fishing trip of fishermen will be successful with lots of fish and shrimp, and a safe and smooth return to the mainland.

At the same time, the Great Worship Ceremony also brings joy, luck and a peaceful and happy life to people.

The Great Ceremony and Hat Boi performances have an important meaning in the spiritual life of coastal people. This ritual shows respect and gratitude to ancestors and gods, helps maintain and develop the ethical and traditional values ​​of the community; thereby, maintaining the cultural beauty of the nation, serving the people who come to worship "Ca Ong".

Along with that, the coastal folk games also took place enthusiastically, attracting many locals and tourists to participate and cheer.

Here, people and tourists can participate in games such as pushing sticks, spreading nets, tying crabs, blindfolded duck catching, carrying salt, blindfolded pig beating, etc.

Folk games not only create a joyful and exciting atmosphere but also contribute to promoting the unique culture of Can Gio fishermen to tourists.

The Festival Organizing Committee also organized a stilt performance. The stilt team walked along the central streets and festival areas.

Stilt walking is a sport imbued with the folk culture of coastal people, contributing to the exciting atmosphere of the Whale Festival, praying for favorable weather and peace for fishermen to have a bountiful harvest after days of fishing.

The Can Gio Whale Festival 2025 takes place from October 5 to 7 in Can Gio commune, aiming to preserve and promote traditional cultural values ​​of the locality, contributing to building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.
