Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) has just sent a document to the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises to update statistics on the damage caused by storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) and the storm's circulation. According to VNR's report, the damage to railway infrastructure assets invested by the State is about 130 billion VND (over 30 landslides covering the railway; over 40 flooded locations, roadbeds, and rock foundations; hundreds of trees and structures falling on the railway and signal lines). In addition, VNR also suffered a loss of about 48 billion, of which the damage to assets invested by the enterprise was 20 billion VND (17 locomotives, many flooded vehicles and equipment; many supply and demand buildings, roads, accommodation, and offices had their roofs blown off, and their fences collapsed); the loss of railway transport revenue was 28 billion VND (over 22 freight trains and over 54 passenger trains were canceled). “To proactively respond to and overcome the incidents caused by storm No. 3 (super typhoon Yagi) and storm circulation, VNR has urgently repaired railway infrastructure assets, restored railway transport activities and production and business,” affirmed Mr. Hoang Gia Khanh, General Director of VNR. In addition, the Corporation has been transporting 620.6 tons of goods (necessities, water, medicine, clothes, books, medical equipment...) from Song Than and Nha Trang stations to Giap Bat stations and is expected to arrive at Yen Bai and Lao Cai stations. In order to quickly restore the state of the railway infrastructure and stabilize the production and business activities of enterprises and the lives of workers affected by the storm and the circulation of storm No. 3, VNR requests the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises to make recommendations to the Prime Minister and advise the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Finance to pay attention to allocating sufficient funds for repair and recovery of damage to assets invested by the State. Regarding damage to assets invested by enterprises and the decline in railway transport revenue, VNR requests the competent authority to consider continuing to apply the policy of reducing railway infrastructure usage fees for the following years and have tax exemption and reduction policies to support enterprises to overcome difficulties and quickly restore production and business activities. In the context of VNR's difficult production and business activities, support for workers is limited. The Corporation requests competent authorities and local authorities to have support policies to soon stabilize the lives of railway workers.
