That is the question of a reader in Ho Chi Minh City sent to Thanh Nien Newspaper about engineering degrees and bachelor's degrees at university level.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, engineering degrees are awarded to students studying in the fields of engineering and technology. Bachelor's degrees are for students studying other fields such as basic science, economics , pedagogy, services, etc.

"But there are still some fields that intersect engineering and technology with other fields such as economics and services. Some places grant bachelor's degrees if the program focuses on economics and services; some places grant engineering degrees if the program focuses on engineering," Dr. Nhan informed.
"Regarding business administration, at university level, it is usually a major in business administration. This field of study is purely in the economic field, so all schools grant bachelor's degrees, including Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry. Up to now, no school has granted an engineering degree in this field," Dr. Nhan added.
However, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, said that if there is a construction school specializing in business administration within a field related to engineering, such as construction engineering, after graduating, those who specialize in working at construction enterprises will be able to be awarded an engineering degree.
"At Duy Tan University, the business administration major is part of the business administration major. Students studying this major will be provided with basic to advanced knowledge about organizing, managing and operating production and business activities, and managing business activities. Upon graduation, they will be awarded a bachelor's degree," said Dr. Hai.
According to university representatives, the program to obtain an engineering degree will be longer, about 150 credits, and this degree is equivalent to level 7 in the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework, while the bachelor's program is built with a minimum of 120 credits, equivalent to level 6.
