Tea growers in village 7, Phu Nghia commune (Lac Thuy) cultivate tea according to VietGAP process, meeting quality standards from purchasing units.
To date, Lac Thuy district has nearly 245 hectares of tea, of which 100 hectares are VietGAP certified, accounting for 40.8%. The tea area is mainly planned in communes along the Boi River, with suitable climate and soil conditions, and a convenient transportation system for the development of concentrated raw material areas. This helps reduce transportation and storage costs as well as facilitate the process of quality control and traceability.
Along with expanding the area, Lac Thuy district focuses on standardizing the production process. Localities have been actively implementing the registration of growing area codes, applying technology in product traceability, building the "Song Boi Tea" brand associated with clean, safe and sustainable criteria. Thanks to that, the product, which was previously only consumed in retail at traditional markets, is now vacuum-packed, labeled with traceability codes, appearing on e-commerce platforms, and even initially approaching the export market.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, village 7, Phu Nghia commune has been attached to tea plants for more than 10 years. Previously, she picked fresh tea buds to sell at the market, earning a few tens of thousands of dong each day, not a high income. In recent years, she has been contracted to grow tea from Song Boi Thang Long Company Limited, from which tea growing has brought her family a stable source of income. Together with the production team of village 7, she was trained in safe farming techniques, using organic fertilizers, spraying biological pesticides at the right dose, and understanding the VietGAP process, thanks to which the quality of tea has been increasingly improved, meeting the strict requirements of the company.
Based on the orientation of sustainable agricultural development, Lac Thuy district has identified the development of tea material areas as one of the key tasks in restructuring the agricultural sector. Phu Thanh and Phu Nghia communes... have many large tea hills, invested in environmentally friendly cultivation, suitable for the consumer market. Many households have boldly applied mechanization in the care, harvesting and processing stages. In particular, compliance with the "4 rights" principle in the use of pesticides (right medicine, right time, right concentration and dosage, right way) helps tea products ensure food safety and hygiene, and are favored by consumers.
The prospect of tea trees has been opening up a direction for clean and sustainable agriculture. With the consensus between the government, businesses and people, the "Song Boi Tea" brand promises to continue to expand, not only domestically but also in the international market. However, Lac Thuy tea trees still face many difficulties: production is still fragmented, productivity is not high, quality is not commensurate with potential. Output is not stable, competitiveness in the market is limited. To overcome this, the district has built a system of management documents, issued regulations on use and quality control for "Song Boi Tea" products from cultivation to processing and preservation.
According to Mr. Bui Duy Tien, Director of Song Boi Thang Long Two-Member LLC, the company is cooperating with small-scale tea growers, promoting the compliance with the list of plant protection drugs, and applying technical requirements from domestic and foreign partners. Mr. Tien said: In order for Song Boi tea to grow further, we pay special attention to building clean raw material areas, while developing a portfolio of tea products suitable for consumer tastes, increasing added value for producers. The company continues to coordinate with the district's departments and branches in transferring and applying advanced science and technology to production, while strengthening propaganda, introduction, and promotion to affirm the position of "Song Boi Tea" products to domestic and international consumers.
