Nghe An: Innovation and creativity in product branding

April 20 was chosen as Vietnam Brand Day. Recognizing the importance of brands, many OCOP production facility owners in Nghe An have aimed to standardize, build brands, industrial designs for products and develop along the value chain.

Efforts to build OCOP product brand

For a long time, in Nghe An, when talking about rattan and bamboo products, people often mention the Duc Phong brand. Over time, Duc Phong rattan and bamboo products have combined traditional and modern features, but still retain the unique sophistication of Vietnamese craft villages, and have been welcomed by customers from many countries.

Mr. Thai Dai Phong - Director of Duc Phong Company Limited said: Every year, the company designs 20 - 40 new products and regularly improves designs. In addition to high applicability in modern life such as: trays, boxes, lanterns, baskets of all kinds, decorations, souvenirs, tables and chairs... rattan and bamboo products attract customers because of their environmental friendliness, creating a green living space.

Recently, the bamboo lamp set of Duc Phong Company Limited, including bamboo twisted hanging lamp, lotus petal table lamp, wall lamp - was officially approved for the 5-star OCOP title at the national level. Previously, in 2022, 5 other products of this enterprise were also honored with 5-star OCOP. Up to now, this is the only product group of Nghe An that has been recognized as an OCOP product twice.

Hang Moon Herbal Import-Export Company Limited (Do Luong) is a company specializing in the production of benign, safe and effective herbal consumer products for users. The company currently has 20 herbal products serving the essential needs of consumers such as: shampoo, shower gel, soap, etc.; of which, there are 4 products that have achieved 3-star OCOP at the provincial level in 2022: shampoo, baby shower gel, oral essential oil and turmeric and betel leaf cleaning solution.

In June 2024, the perilla bud tea product, one of the first 7 OCOP products of Hang Moon Herbal Import-Export Company Limited, won second prize at the "OCOP Journey" program held for the first time in Vietnam.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang - Director of Hang Moon Herbal Import-Export Company Limited said: "Initially, some of my start-up products from local agricultural products have achieved success. To achieve that result, besides the top priority of product quality, we also pay great attention to building brands and finding outlets for our products. Currently, with the explosion of the Internet, we are increasing communication on social networks, with sales and marketing on social networks. This is considered the right direction for start-up businesses like us."

In addition to preserving and conserving traditional values, businesses are constantly improving products and production technology to ensure strict standards of quality and food safety according to international standards. OCOP products are granted geographical indications, registered trademarks, industrial designs, have potential and regional advantages to participate in major specialized fairs and exhibitions in key markets such as the US, Europe, Japan, China..., thereby expanding the consumption market and increasing the economic value of OCOP products. This is a suitable direction, becoming an effective tool in sustainable development of production and market.

Up to now, Nghe An has many products that are protected and well developed. Products granted collective trademarks and certified trademarks have contributed to enhancing the value of Nghe An's specialties and traditions, and are favored by consumers inside and outside the province. For example, products such as: Uncle Ho's hometown lotus, Quy Chau incense, Van Phan fish sauce, Cua Lo grilled mackerel, Tay Hieu honey, Gang village molasses, Quynh Luu dried squid, Tuong Duong beef jerky, Con Cuong leaf yeast wine...

Some localities have focused on developing OCOP products in parallel with building brands and industrial designs applying VietGAP, Global GAP, HACCP standards...

With available potentials, along with the strong promotion of innovation, science and technology, OCOP products are expected to develop strongly in the coming time, building strong brands.

Mr. Pham Van Hoa - Director of Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade said: Implementing the activities of the "National Brand" Week to celebrate Vietnam Brand Day (April 20), the Industry and Trade sector has stepped up propaganda and promotion of the "National Brand" Program; promoting the construction of brands of goods and services that meet high quality standards. At the same time, honoring and promoting the brands of typical local products in the context of international economic integration, thereby elevating the level of Vietnamese brand products.

“Vietnam National Brand: Breakthrough from innovation and creativity” is the theme for the activities of Vietnam Brand Day 2025. As part of the series of activities of the "Vietnam National Brand" Week, on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of Vietnam Brand Day, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien sent a congratulatory letter to the business community and enterprises. In the letter, the Minister acknowledged and praised the efforts, creativity, and spirit of overcoming difficulties of Vietnamese enterprises - the core force contributing to the development of Vietnam's national brand in recent times.

In 2024 - 2025, in the context of the complicated world situation and the potential risks of the global economy, the Minister highly appreciated the important achievements of Vietnamese enterprises, especially the proactiveness in overcoming difficulties to maintain production and business activities, boost exports and enhance the Vietnamese brand in the international arena.

Notably, Vietnam is continuously ranked high on the international investment attraction map, in the top 3 of ASEAN and in the top 15 economies with the highest FDI value, while maintaining its position in the top 20 countries with the highest level of global trade in goods.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized: The "Vietnam National Brand" program enters its 25th year with a particularly important meaning - not only continuing to honor the value of Vietnamese brands, but also contributing to improving competitiveness, affirming the role of enterprises in the global value chain. In the period of 2025 - 2030, it is necessary to focus on building enterprise brands associated with national brands, improving product quality, expanding markets, while at the same time, paying attention to sustainable development and social responsibility.
