This is an event organized by the Department of Political Work, Ministry of Public Security, Ho Guom Theater, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the inauguration of Ho Guom Theater (July 9, 2023 - July 9, 2025); towards the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security Traditional Day; 20 years of the National Day for National Security Protection.
The program was attended by leaders of the Party, State, leaders of central ministries and branches and Hanoi City; comrades in the Central Public Security Party Committee, leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defense , Ambassadors, Chargé d'Affaires, Heads of international organizations in Vietnam and many lovers of academic art.
The program brings together outstanding artists of the world and Vietnam's academic arts and hundreds of artists from the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra, the Southern Choir and the Green Wind Choir. "The Light of Melody" is a special musical gift from the Ho Guom Theater to the leaders and audiences who have been and will be supporting the art programs at the theater.
In the program, the public will enjoy top-notch musical works by world-famous composers such as Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, Giordano..., performed by three excellent voices of world opera.
Among them, artist Marcelo Álvarez was born in Córdoba (Argentina), and is currently considered one of the outstanding tenors of the world opera art. He is welcomed by audiences at most of the famous opera houses around the world. Marcelo Álvarez's special talent was soon discovered by the legendary singer Giuseppe Di Stefano. After that, Álvarez quickly went to Europe and debuted at La Fenice Theater (Venice) with a role in "La Sonnambula". Initially, Marcelo Álvarez made his mark with works in the style of Belcanto and French opera, before gradually moving to powerful roles in works by Verismo and Verdi. A brilliant and successful career has brought Marcelo Álvarez to most of the major stages and top music festivals in the world.
In the concert “The Light of Melody”, Marcelo Álvarez conquered the audience with his excellent performance technique, and at the same time, he ignited the energy on the stage of Ho Guom Theater with works about his homeland. As he shared, this was a special gift that he and the orchestra had carefully prepared to give to the audience and to Ho Guom Theater on this occasion.
Also in the program, viewers had the opportunity to enjoy the talent of Kathryn Lewek - an American soprano famous for her ability to connect with the audience. Kathryn Lewek graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Vocal Music from the Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester). The female artist is praised for her series of roles with a lyrical - leading color style, especially Mozart's Queen of the Night - a "signature" role that helped her set a record for the number of performances. In 2013, she was honored to win the Audience Favorite Award and another high prize at the prestigious Operalia competition. Her recording career was marked with her debut opera album "Gisei (Orff) & Die Dorfschule (Weingartner) - CPO" released by CPO Records. Kathryn Lewek was nominated for the 2021 ICMA Award, appeared twice in the prestigious live television series "Live in HD" of the Metropolitan Opera... In the concert on the night of July 10, Kathryn Lewek conquered the audience with her captivating stage presence, clear and powerful voice...
Also in the program, viewers will have the opportunity to enjoy one of the most outstanding and sought-after lyric tenors today - artist Joseph Calleja. Born in 1978 in Malta, Joseph Calleja started singing at the age of 16 and made his professional opera debut at the age of 19, playing the role of Macduff in Macbeth at the Astra Theatre (Malta). Joseph Calleja quickly took off after winning prestigious competitions such as: Hans Gabor Belvedere, Caruso Competition (1998), and Operalia (1999) ... He is famous for his diverse albums and regularly appears at prestigious opera houses and concert stages. In the program "The Light of Melody", he and the artists had excellent performances.
Accompanying the world-famous opera voices in the program “The Light of Melody” are also leading Vietnamese artists such as People’s Artist Bui Cong Duy and Conductor Tran Nhat Minh. The artists have created the most special spiritual gift for the audience – those who have been contributing to spreading the love of art. There, the music leads the listeners through many emotions, from the romantic, intense Italian style; to the brilliant and vibrant, charming colors of Spanish music; or the majestic, magnificent, but also sophisticated, romantic Russian music…
The first night of “The Light of Melody” is also a special milestone marking the two-year journey of formation and development of Ho Guom Theater, and opening a new journey full of expectations – where art continues to flourish, spread, and touch the hearts of the public. According to the plan, the artists will continue to have a second performance night at Ho Guom Theater on July 11.
