In the small apartment of Captain Nguyen Trung Thanh, a non-commissioned officer in the Logistics and Technical Department of Brigade 680, in Son Tra ward, Da Nang city, the cheerful atmosphere is filled with laughter and lively conversations from officers and members of the Women's Association of Brigade 680. For little Nguyen Do Minh Phuong, Captain Thanh's daughter, this is a peaceful moment, where her longing for her mother is soothed in the arms of the women, her "second mothers" who are her father's comrades.

Nguyen Do Minh Phuong's mother passed away when she was very young. Without a mother's embrace, Minh Phuong has to manage everything herself, from studying and cooking to cleaning the house. Her hands are still clumsy, but each meal or a tidy, clean room is the greatest joy for her single father. "Thanks to the Party Committee and the Brigade's command implementing the 'Godmother' model, in addition to the 2 million VND support per year, the women's association members regularly visit and monitor her studies and health, helping my child develop both physically and mentally in an environment lacking a mother's care," Captain Nguyen Trung Thanh emotionally shared. During the implementation of the model, the Women's Association coordinated with affiliated units and mobilized organizations, individuals, and philanthropists inside and outside the unit to raise funds. Thanks to this, Minh Phuong always receives meaningful visits and gifts on holidays, New Year's Day, the start of the new school year, or whenever she achieves high academic results, helping to alleviate some of the family's hardships.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Minh, Deputy Political Commissar of Brigade 680, said: "The 'Godmother' model was implemented by the unit in 2025 and quickly received enthusiastic support from a large number of officers and soldiers in the unit, while also spreading widely to partner organizations and individuals, helping the model bring practical results and contributing to sharing difficulties with underprivileged children." According to Major Nguyen Thi Thu Van, President of the Women's Association of Brigade 680, to ensure the model's effectiveness, the Association has first integrated the model's activities into its monthly program. At the same time, it promotes the role of "godmother" by organizing exchange sessions, sharing skills, and raising awareness and responsibility among members; viewing this not only as a charitable activity but also as a practical political task for the community. Another issue is proactively ensuring a stable and uninterrupted funding source through maintaining the "Piggy Bank" model; The movement involves saving at least 1,000 VND per day from personal expenses of officers and soldiers; collecting scrap materials and old newspapers to sell for fundraising; and mobilizing support from social organizations, individuals, and philanthropists inside and outside the unit... Dr. Do Hong Cuong, from the Viet Duc Dental Center (Da Nang City) - who has accompanied Brigade 680 through many social welfare programs, shared: “I am truly impressed with the “Godmother” model. This is a very meaningful and humane act, demonstrating the camaraderie and solidarity of naval soldiers. I will continue to work with the unit to spread this model more widely.”
Although only recently implemented, the "Godmother" model at Brigade 680 has been proving effective, demonstrating the responsibility and affection of the collective and individual female members towards the difficult circumstances of their comrades. This serves as a great source of moral support, helping military families overcome difficulties and improve their lives.
