Severely criticize the traffic police captain

On November 23, according to Thanh Nien reporter, the People's Committee of Tran Van Thoi district has just reported on the inspection and clarification of the responsibilities of organizations and individuals related to the incident of a 31-ton truck traveling through a 3.5-ton suspension bridge (Rach Rang suspension bridge, Tran Van Thoi town), causing damage to the bridge.

The bridge railing was deformed after an overloaded vehicle passed through.

According to the report, at the time of the incident, the patrol team of Tran Van Thoi District Police was checking vehicles at Trang Co Bridge (Hamlet 5, Tran Van Thoi Town) and the bridge toll station located on the south bank of Ong Doc River (Cong Nghiep Hamlet, Loi An Commune). Meanwhile, the violating truck was traveling towards the north bank of Ong Doc River, passing through the south bank, so it was not detected in time.

The report also stated that before the truck moved through Tran Van Thoi district, it had passed through the Trans-Asia Highway (in Thoi Binh district and Khanh An commune, Minh district), so patrolling and controlling was difficult for the district.

Immediately upon receiving the news, the Traffic Police of Tran Van Thoi District Police sent forces to the scene to clarify the situation. Afterwards, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tran Van Thoi District directed the District Traffic Safety Committee to consider the responsibility of the Deputy Chief of the District Police, concurrently the Standing Deputy Head of the District Traffic Safety Committee, due to the lack of strictness in inspection, direction of patrols, control and handling of overloaded vehicles, leading to the incident.

At the same time, severely criticize the collective and the Captain of the Traffic Police Team of Tran Van Thoi District Police, for not being strict in implementing patrol, control, and handling of overloaded vehicles, allowing violations to occur but not detecting, preventing, and handling them promptly.

Currently, the police are requesting an assessment of the damage to Rach Rang suspension bridge to determine how to handle it according to the law.

As Thanh Nien reported, at around 9:50 a.m. on October 16, truck with license plate 76H - 004.16 driven by driver P.D.P (30 years old, residing in Tinh Khe commune, Quang Ngai city, Quang Ngai ) moved across Rach Rang suspension bridge from the north bank to the south bank of Ong Doc river.

This truck has a load capacity of 17.9 tons, but the actual load when passing through the bridge is 31 tons (including the vehicle load and goods). Meanwhile, the maximum load sign of Rach Rang suspension bridge is 3.5 tons, leading to severe damage to the bridge, affecting vehicles passing through the bridge.

According to the People's Committee of Tran Van Thoi District, the estimated damage reported by the bridge management unit is about 5 billion VND. Rach Rang suspension bridge has a total investment of 15 billion VND, put into use since July 2010, operated and collected tolls by Liem Duyen Hai Company Limited.
