The leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that after the incident of the Nguyen Dynasty throne being vandalized by a person, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, came to inspect and give instructions.
Relevant units and individuals are required to report, review, and consider responsibilities in the spirit of drawing experience to improve protection, display, and tour organization in the coming time.
For damaged artifacts, the center established a professional council to assess the current situation, from which to develop a plan to submit to the competent authority for consideration for repair and preservation in accordance with regulations.
Regarding human factors, the center will enhance skills training, use support tools, situation handling training, solutions to identify abnormal behaviors, classify visitors, and coordinate timely reporting with management agencies.

The leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that there is currently a surveillance camera system in the Thai Hoa Palace area. However, after the above incident, the Center will contact the technology unit to find solutions.
One of the new solutions being researched is a "virtual fence" system using artificial intelligence. This system will demarcate inaccessible areas and will send out a warning if anyone enters.
" After the recent incident, this plan can be piloted immediately to assess its feasibility before being widely applied. However, the implementation will be based on the spirit of making the most of the existing system, avoiding spreading, causing waste and inefficiency, " affirmed the leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center.
The protection of artifacts and treasures has been carried out for decades, inherited through each stage, with an increasingly complete legal system. Each type of artifact and treasure has its own protection process. For some national artifacts and treasures, museum staff will periodically come weekly to clean, sanitize and monitor the condition to have a suitable preservation plan.

The security forces here not only protect the exhibits, but also guide visitors, participate in cleaning and support the organization of events and activities. The workload is large, making it difficult to avoid mistakes. Previously, the security guards were equipped with electric batons to perform their duties, but after many years, the authorities have withdrawn them.
Electric batons are a group of support tools with common usage regulations. Training is required to ensure safety. The center is developing a plan and submitting it for approval to equip.
Currently, the total number of relic guards usually fluctuates around 140 people. For non-important areas (without artifacts or antiquities), the unit bids for security services. As for important areas with national treasures, the center's directly-staffed security force will be in charge.

Ho Van Phuong Tam - the intruder who entered the restricted area and destroyed the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne.
On the afternoon of May 24, the Nguyen Dynasty throne was sabotaged by Ho Van Phuong Tam (born in 1983, currently residing in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City). Tam broke the left armrest of the throne and smashed it, causing the armrest to break into many pieces.
At 12:10 p.m. the same day, the Imperial Citadel security force was able to control Tam and reported to Dong Ba Ward Police to make a record of the arrest of the offender. After that, the police conducted a quick drug test on Ho Van Phuoc Tam, the result was negative.
According to Hue City Police, Ho Van Phuong Tam was born in Huong Long Ward (Phu Xuan District, Hue City). In 1990, Tam followed his family to live in Ho Chi Minh City but then rented a room outside, frequently changing his residence. In mid-May 2025, Ho Van Phuong Tam returned to Hue to live with a relative (aunt) in Alley 28 (Nguyen Phuc Nguyen Street, Huong Long Ward) but was not allowed to so he went to live as a vagrant.
On July 18, 2023, Ho Van Phuong Tam was ordered by the People's Court of Tan Binh District (Ho Chi Minh City) to apply administrative measures to send him to a compulsory drug rehabilitation facility.
The throne is a symbol of the dynasty's power, passed down through 13 Nguyen Dynasty kings. The throne is made of wood, 101cm high, 72cm wide, 87cm long. Above the throne is a gilded wooden canopy and splendid enamel decoration. Below is the throne platform with three tiers of gilded wooden platforms. All are made of wood with many dragon images symbolizing blessings, longevity, and luck.
The throne of the Nguyen Dynasty kings was recognized as a national treasure of Vietnam in 2015 and is often placed at Thai Hoa Palace for tourists to admire and visit.
