International cultural and sports event destinations According to Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Xuan Binh, the city organizes many international cultural and sports events such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF), the Da Nang International Marathon, the IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam Competition; the Asian Film Festival in Da Nang; the Asian Golf Festival and Golf Tournament; the Vietnam - Japan, Vietnam - Korea Festival; the Da Nang International Yoga Festival... The above events have left beautiful impressions in the eyes of international friends, contributing to affirming the position of "Da Nang as the leading event destination in Asia". Thanks to that, the number of international visitors to visit and travel in Da Nang has increased significantly. In the first quarter of 2024, international visitors to the city are estimated to reach nearly 636,000, an increase of 21.6% over the same period in 2023. Director of the Center for International Cooperation Development and Foreign Affairs Services of the city Tran Hieu shared that when an international event is organized methodically, on a large scale and successfully, the image of Da Nang will be widely promoted, helping international friends understand the beauty of its traditional culture, contributing effectively to attracting tourists to Vietnam. For example, the Vietnam - Japan and Vietnam - Korea Festivals organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Embassies and Consulates General of the two countries in July and August respectively will introduce the beauty of Da Nang culture and people to Japanese and Korean tourists and businesses. They will certainly choose Da Nang as an ideal destination for every trip and vacation. On the contrary, Da Nang also absorbs the cultural quintessence of other countries, enriching the spiritual life of the people. Not only promoting Da Nang through international cultural and sports events and festivals, but the city's cultural heritages recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also spread Da Nang to the world. In recent years, the Department of Foreign Affairs has actively connected the Department of Cultural Diplomacy (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and UNESCO, along with the efforts of the city's cultural sector. At the end of 2022, "Ghost stele at Ngu Hanh Son" was recognized by UNESCO as a Documentary Heritage under the Memory of the World program in the Asia-Pacific region. This cultural heritage is contributing to attracting a large number of international tourists to visit and learn. In order to continue to improve the effectiveness of cultural diplomacy activities, the City People's Committee recently issued a plan to implement cultural diplomacy until 2025 with 7 specific tasks and solutions. Chairman of the City Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Ngoc Binh said that when international friends understand and love the culture of Da Nang in particular and Vietnam in general, each international friend will be a cultural ambassador promoting the image of a dynamic, friendly and safe Da Nang in the international arena. From there, promote economic development, especially sustainable tourism development; especially consolidate, strengthen and develop friendship and people-to-people cooperation with international friends. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Binh informed that in 2024, the Union plans to coordinate with agencies and units to organize international cultural and sports events such as the International Youth and Children's Arts Festival - Da Nang 2024, the National Japanese Singing Festival - Da Nang 2024. On June 16, the Union, the Vietnam - India Friendship Association, in coordination with the Indian Embassy in Vietnam, will organize the International Yoga Performance - Da Nang 2024. This is an opportunity for the city's people, especially the foreign community living and working in Da Nang and people of other countries to learn about each other's cultures.

The opportunity to attract international tourists Da Nang lies on the "Central Heritage Road" with diverse and rich cultural resources associated with scenic spots, relics, and historical craft villages, which are very favorable for tourism development. As the focal agency implementing the plan to implement cultural diplomacy, the Department of Foreign Affairs coordinates with relevant units to integrate the promotion of Da Nang's culture and image to promote and connect cultural and tourism cooperation programs into the working content for city leaders to exchange with foreign partners. In March 2023, a working trip to Japan led by Party Central Committee member and City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Quang visited and worked in Osaka City. A seminar on investment and tourism promotion in Da Nang was held here, attracting more than 100 guests to attend. The workshop aims to promote the destination of Da Nang, focusing on introducing the investment and business environment, key projects calling for investment and the city's tourism potential to investment groups and tourism enterprises in Japan. In addition to promoting international tourism to Da Nang, this year at the Vietnam - Japan and Vietnam - Korea Festivals, the city will organize a workshop to promote tourism, attract investment and cooperation in the field of microchips and semiconductors between Da Nang and Japan, and a workshop to share experiences in developing key economic sectors of Korea. "This is a new point in the festival seasons taking place in Da Nang this year. We expect to promote the city's socio-economic development through cultural diplomacy," said Mr. Tran Hieu. Local-level cooperation is also a bright spot in the cultural diplomacy picture. Most recently, during a working trip to Germany led by Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh, the city signed a memorandum of understanding on friendship and strategic cooperation with the state of Thuringia. Currently, Da Nang has signed 105 memorandums of understanding to establish friendship and cooperation with 49 localities in countries and territories around the world. Many of these memorandums are related to international cooperation in the field of cultural diplomacy and tourism promotion with foreign localities, typically Queensland state and Gold Coast city (Australia), Daegu city (Korea), Khonkaen province (Thailand)... According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh, cultural diplomacy has made practical and effective contributions to the city's socio-economic development. Therefore, the city needs to pay more attention and invest in promoting Da Nang culture abroad. For example, organizing art troupes to perform abroad, especially in localities that have cooperative relations with Da Nang. Because through art performances and cultural exchanges, international friends will know more about Da Nang and from there the city's tourism will develop.
