Arsenal star shocks by missing unbelievable chance in front of empty goal

(Dan Tri) - If Bukayo Saka had scored in a situation where he only had an empty goal in front of him in the 80th minute, Arsenal's fate might have been different.

Arsenal suffered a 1-2 defeat to PSG in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final last night. With this result, the "Gunners" were eliminated from Europe's top club tournament after losing 1-3 on aggregate after two matches.

After the match, coach Mikel Arteta expressed regret that Arsenal's strikers missed too many good chances. Perhaps the most regrettable situation for the London club was Bukayo Saka's miss in the 80th minute.

Calafiori's cross from the left wing evaded Donnarumma's control and found Saka, but with only an empty net in front of him, the English striker fired high into the air.

That was when Arsenal were 1-2 down, if Saka had been successful, the score would have been 2-2. The match could have gone in a completely different direction with more than 10 minutes left.

Many Arsenal fans expressed regret over this unbelievable miss. The club's legend, Martin Keown, shared: "It was a painful moment. Perhaps Saka will have sleepless nights for missing such a delicious opportunity."

Former Man Utd player Owen Hargreaves expressed his opinion: "Maybe Saka lost concentration in this situation, leading to wrong contact with the ball or goalkeeper Donnarumma put pressure. But in any case, the ball should have gone into the net."

Commentator Ally McCoist added: "If Saka had scored, the last 10 minutes would have been different. Unfortunately, he shot over the bar. Saka missed a great chance. It's hard to blame him but he should have put the ball in the net."

Ally McCoist also believes Arsenal failed to capitalise on their chances in both games. "I'm not sure Arsenal deserved to lose but they weren't good enough to win both games against PSG. They played well but failed to capitalise on their chances. When you can't score when you're dominant, defeat is inevitable."

Thus, Arsenal still cannot materialize the dream of reaching the Champions League final for the first time since 2006. Meanwhile, PSG has a great opportunity to win the tournament for the first time. In the final match, PSG will face Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena (Munich) on May 31.
