Thai volleyball star causes outrage by mocking Bich Tuyen

There was a heated debate between Vietnamese and Thai women's volleyball fans, after Thailand's 3-2 victory in the first leg of SEA V.League 2025.

The first wave of controversy came from the rather confusing refereeing decisions during the match, with most of them going in Thailand's favor. The focus was on the "whistle-blowing" in the second game.

When the score was 19-21 in favor of Thailand, middle blocker Nguyen Thi Trinh made a delicate drop shot to send the ball into the Thai field. Pimpichaya Kokram dived to save the ball before Warisara Seetaloed finished.

Initially, the female referee determined that the ball had touched the floor after Nguyen Thi Trinh's drop shot and awarded the score to Vietnam. However, after much debate from Thailand, the referee changed her decision and awarded the score to Thailand.

This move helped Thailand break away and equalize 1-1, and then win spectacularly 3-2.

Many Vietnamese fans were angry. In addition to criticizing the referee, Vietnamese fans also criticized the host country Thailand for playing unfairly.

Arguing back and forth is a common thing for fans after intense matches. But Pimpichaya unexpectedly joined in this argument with a sarcastic comment.

Specifically, under a comment on social media criticizing Thailand for "playing dirty", the 27-year-old star suddenly responded with the comment: "I am a real woman".

The comment, written in English, immediately sparked outrage among Vietnamese fans.

Quite clearly, this comment is aimed at Bich Tuyen - a Vietnamese female volleyball star who has had many controversies about her gender.

Pimpichaya's comment earned her thousands of angry and critical comments from fans. About an hour later, the Thai star turned off the comments.

Before this comment, Pimpichaya had another response comment saying: "See you in Vietnam". This week, Thailand will meet the Vietnamese women's volleyball team again in the second round of SEA V.League 2025.

For decades, Vietnamese women's volleyball has always lost every time they face Thailand.

Even after exploding in recent years, the golden generation of Vietnamese volleyball girls have yet to change their losing streak when facing the strongest opponents in the region.
