Messy on Le Thanh Ton street

The project to upgrade and renovate sidewalks and build new underground technical infrastructure works for shared use on Le Thanh Ton Street (from the 6-way intersection to Tran Phu Street) started in February and is expected to be completed on August 20, 2025. Previously, this project was invested by the Nha Trang City Construction Project Management Board and Khanh Anh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company as the construction contractor. From July 1, 2025, the project was assigned to the Provincial Development Project Management Board as the investor.

Materials and debris are scattered, causing traffic safety problems.

According to the reporter's observation, although the project is behind schedule, the construction site is still littered with machinery, equipment, and debris. Many sections of road and sidewalk in front of Phuoc Tien Primary School, the intersection with Bui Thi Xuan Street, Ngo Gia Tu Street, etc., were dug up by the construction unit and left there in a very messy and unsafe condition. It is worth mentioning that this project is located on a major road with a large volume of traffic, connecting the west with Tran Phu coastal road. However, the project site is quite messy and unsightly as materials and debris are scattered all over the construction sites. At the intersections between Le Thanh Ton Street and other streets, the construction unit also erected corrugated iron fences that obscured the view, making it impossible for road users to observe. Many tourists walking across this route have to walk in the middle of the road, which is very dangerous.

Mr. Tran Xuan Tay - Chairman of Nha Trang Ward People's Committee said: The project to upgrade and renovate sidewalks and build new underground technical infrastructure works for shared use on Le Thanh Ton Street is too slow, affecting urban aesthetics, hindering traffic, especially preparing for the new school year. On this route, there are 3 schools including: Thai Nguyen Secondary School, Phuoc Tien Primary School, Loc Tho 2 Kindergarten. Therefore, from the beginning of August, Nha Trang Ward People's Committee sent a document to the Provincial Development Project Management Board, Khanh Anh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company to urgently speed up the construction progress, complete unfinished items around the school area before the opening ceremony; ensure that the roadway and sidewalk are always cleaned neatly and clean, do not leave construction materials and waste lying around the road causing traffic obstruction and environmental pollution. At the same time, arrange signs, barriers, and signal lights at night in accordance with regulations on road signs; Arrange traffic controllers during rush hour to ensure absolute safety for residents and students when traveling. However, up to now, the construction unit has not yet implemented according to the requirements.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien - Director of the Provincial Development Project Management Board said that on August 5, the board sent a document requesting Khanh Anh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company to urgently provide adequate materials and equipment, and increase human resources to speed up the progress. If the contractor continues to delay, the Provincial Development Project Management Board will handle it according to Article 18 of Contract No. 06 dated February 7, 2025. On August 26, the board continued to send a document to Khanh Anh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company requesting to urgently increase machinery and human resources, and arrange additional construction teams to speed up the project implementation progress. Specifically, the section from the beginning of the route to Ngo Gia Tu must complete all items of curbs, sidewalks, technical trenches, asphalt, cleaning, etc. to ensure traffic safety before September 1. The section from Ngo Gia Tu Street to the end of the route must complete all items such as curbs, sidewalks, technical trenches, asphalt pavement, etc. before September 18. “The project progress is still very slow, not meeting requirements. Up to now, the project's construction output has only reached about 41% of the contract value. If the contractor continues to delay, the board will handle it according to regulations,” said Mr. Hien.

The project to upgrade and renovate sidewalks and build new underground technical infrastructure works for shared use on Le Thanh Ton Street includes the following items: Construction of technical trenches under the road with a depth of 0.7m; arrangement of 4 more technical trenches across the road; undergrounding the entire cable system of the telecommunications unit, power cables, cables of the lighting system, etc. After completing the undergrounding of the technical infrastructure system, the construction unit will restore the sidewalk to ensure aesthetics, pave granite, arrange access and exit for the disabled; and at the same time plant suitable trees in the missing locations. The project has a total investment of more than 30.4 billion VND. The goal of the project is to upgrade and renovate sidewalks synchronously on all roads, build underground works to concentrate and position the technical infrastructure system in a modern direction, create open space, and ensure urban aesthetics.
