In the past few days, everyone in the female prison cell was happy to know that prisoner Tran Viet Anh was granted amnesty this time. Joy but also mixed with anxiety, were the feelings of the past few days. Having folded and refolded several sets of clothes, Tran Viet Anh was anxious before the day she could return. 18 months of serving her sentence, those were the days she had to pay the price for her illegal behavior. With good behavior, she was released 27 months early.
Recalling the old days, Tran Viet Anh could not hide her tears, those were the days when she was with her relatives and family. Taking out a photo of the whole family from her pocket, she kept looking at it, she said "my motivation is only like this".
Viet Anh said: These past few days, I have had trouble sleeping because I have been thinking about so many things, it's really chaotic, but then thanks to the care, encouragement, sharing, and help of the inmates and prison officers, I have tried to work and reform myself during this time.
“In a few days, when I am released, I will try to integrate into the community, live a good life and not break the law. At the same time, I am very grateful to those who love me, my husband, my children, my family members who have cared for me and not abandoned me during the days I was here…” – prisoner Tran Viet Anh said emotionally.
Returning to family, relatives and society is the dream of many other prisoners who are also being reformed here. At only 21 years old, young girl Lau Thi Si was sentenced to life in prison for "Illegal transportation of drugs". Si said: "During my time serving my sentence at Son La Police Detention Center, I was always cared for, encouraged and instructed by the Board of Supervisors, the Education Council at all levels, and the prison officers, helping us to clearly recognize our mistakes, feel secure, voluntarily serve our sentences, and hope that one day soon I will also be able to return to my family like Ms. Viet Anh in the same cell".
Each person eligible for amnesty is carefully selected, all of whom have a good rehabilitation process. The second amnesty in 2025 is one of the key activities demonstrating humanity and humanity on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country, so this amnesty is extremely important. At the same time, implementing new legal regulations that take effect from July 1, 2025, the President's Amnesty Decision has new points that expand the scope and subjects compared to previous amnesties, but still ensures strict compliance with the provisions of the Amnesty Law and is under the decision-making authority of the President, with 3 new points in the President's Amnesty Decision, phase 2. To do this well, the Son La Police force has closely followed the direction of superiors, strictly ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Amnesty Law. All prisoners eligible for amnesty are eager for the day of return.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Ba Duy, Warden of the Detention Camp of Son La Provincial Police, said: The unit has publicly announced the President 's Decision and the instructions of the Advisory Council for Special Pardon so that prisoners know, contact themselves, and organize for eligible prisoners to write "Application for Special Pardon" and "Commitment". The Council for considering and proposing special pardon of detention units organizes for prison officers to chair meetings of the prisoner team, discuss, review and vote by secret ballot to recommend prisoners eligible for special pardon; make minutes of the results of the prisoner team meeting, and make a list of recommended prisoners eligible for special pardon in 2025.
“We hope that after receiving amnesty, you have made progress in your rehabilitation and will continue to strive and train to live a useful life for yourself, your family and society through compliance with the law, working and studying. Local authorities, residents and businesses should not discriminate against you, so that you have the conditions to work, train, create material wealth and live a good life,” emphasized Lieutenant Colonel Pham Ba Duy.
The camp gate closes, the door of life will continue to open… In a few days, they will continue a new journey, a journey of honesty and unfinished dreams. The road ahead for the prisoners, although full of hardships and challenges, they are ready to face it, because during the reformation process, they have been provided with the luggage to rebuild their lives…
