Fishermen in Lam Dong province have a successful mackerel fishing season.

Currently, the mackerel fishing season is in full swing and will last until September in the lunar calendar. After the September 2nd holiday, fishermen in the coastal areas of Lam Dong province set out to sea to fish. After about 10 days, many boats returned with large catches of mackerel.

On the morning of September 12th, from early morning, fishing boats from Lam Dong province, laden with mackerel, docked ashore, signaling the start of the main fishing season. At 8 a.m., the Phan Thiet fishing port (Phan Thiet ward, Lam Dong province) was bustling with activity as boats continuously arrived, bringing with them holds full of fish.

For over a month now, mackerel has been in peak season, so Phan Thiet port receives tens of tons of mackerel every day.

As soon as the boat docked, the fishermen quickly transferred the fish from the hold onto plastic trays, then pushed them straight ashore.

On the beach, traders are waiting to sort, weigh, and buy the fish right on the spot.

According to many fishermen, favorable weather conditions since the beginning of the year have resulted in fairly good catches for those who go out to sea.

Following the September 2nd holiday, most fishing boats struck it rich with mackerel. Since the beginning of the year, the total catch unloaded at Phan Thiet fishing port has exceeded 15,000 tons.

Seafood purchasing businesses carry out the process of preserving fish for transportation and sale.

After sorting, the mackerel are stored in refrigerated containers and transported for consumption in various provinces and cities.

Workers sort the fish after bringing them ashore. In recent days, most boats have had a successful catch of mackerel, with some boats achieving yields of tens of tons of fish per trip, which are then sorted and distributed to companies according to orders.

Most of the spiny mackerel caught by fishermen is from waters about 15-20 nautical miles from the shore. Due to the high yield this year, the wholesale price of spiny mackerel at the port ranges from 10,000 to 15,000 VND/kg.

This year, favorable weather conditions have resulted in abundant fish catches, giving fishermen even more opportunities to stay at sea and in their fishing grounds. While mackerel doesn't have high economic value, the large catch still provides fishermen with a decent income. The income from mackerel not only helps families cover living expenses and reinvest in production, but also motivates them to venture further out to sea, preserve their livelihoods, and protect the marine environment.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, the total number of fishing vessels arriving at/departing from ports since the beginning of the year has exceeded 44,000. The province's seafood catch since the beginning of the year has reached 163,329 tons, an increase of 3.62% compared to the same period last year.
